You shouldnt. Heres why:
Myers: Bogosian replaces Myers in the top 4. He didnt look out of place last night, and can replace Myers minutes. I think they'll view Risto as the better player, so in 2 years or whenever really, Risto will go to top pairing and Bogo will drop down. He gives an element to the defense that Myers didnt have, but he also gives up an element that Myers had. If Murray signs a puck moving top pairing LHD (Sekera!) this year, we didnt lose anything.
Armia: We replaced Armia with Kane. Armia was a top 6 winger right? He was 21 years old and wasnt in the NHL yet. We replaced him with a player who is 6 years ahead in his development and the better player. There is no argument about it. We got the NHL top 6 player, not the potential NHL top 6 player.
Lemieux: He doesnt bring anything that Bailey and Baptiste dont bring (goal scoring) while those guys have much more well rounded games than Lemieux, and size. I dont get why people are hung up on him. Maybe because his dad was Claude and he was a playoff performer. I dont know. I think hes already passed by guys in our system, and I'd be willing to bet that Bailey is the better NHL'r in his career.
1st: We still have the other 1st and pick 31 to trade up from. Remember last year we had ammo to trade up but no one was willing. Very well could be the issue again this year. Teams not willing to trade back. If he can, he has the ammo to grab someone. Not a big loss. - theblueandgold
I like Bogosian. I like Kane. I think Myers/Armia will end up being just as important to WPG as Kane/Bogo will be here.
Add in the extra 3 pieces and this is whyI don't like it. We will see.

So you think Toronto would even consider trading one of the best scorers in the league for a late first, a 2nd, a prospect who has little value at this point and retain 2.5 million of his salary on top of it? You then go on to saying you'd trade your 2016 first. Arent you guys rebuilding and didnt you just give up two of your best prospects on wing along with a first? - Cptmjl
1) His trade value is less because of all the reasons I listed. There is a reason why you don't see tearms lining up to get him like they did for Kane.
2) Getting Kessel would put us into the middle of "build" phase. We would have a killer top line (Kane, Kessel and *hopefully* McEichel). Our current top line becomes our second line. Reinhart centers the second line and Girgensons drops down to the third line where he will be a beast. Our 6 D are already defined and the rebuild is over.

What teams were lining up for Kane? - sbroads24
The reports were that before he got hurt Winipeg was contacted by 10 to 20 teams. Even when he went down there were multiple playoff-bound teams that were willing to take him on even though it would hurt their playoff chances.

there are other teams that can get Kessel. Its going to take more than what you listed especially if Toronto hold 3MM of His salary
2015 Non-Buffalo first
McCabe
Bailey
2015 2nd
2016 2nd (Becomes first if Buffalo Makes playoffs)
Exactly. I've been saying all along that it is 50-50. I hate to say it but I still think Edmonton is going to finish last because of the difference in schedules.

Completely different. When we traded for him, WSH and VAN were the only ones seriously interested, neither were willing to give roster players that hurt their playoff runs. We were the only ones willing to

Sure, but that doesn't change my initial statement. Teams were lined up and they would have been lined up around the block this summer. The same will not be true for Kessel.

Youre talking about Evander Kane? Teams were lining up for an oft injured, locker room cancer? So you think the rebuild is over if you got Phil Kessel? Are you sure about your defense that much? Also your depth up front seems a bit thin though mcdavid seems to be an immediate contributor but eichel is being said to possibly need an additional year or so of development. Who is in net for you guys next season?

Kessel is a MUCH better player than Evander Kane. His contract is not terribke for what he brings.

Have to agree with you. I think our GM jumped the gun on this deal. Our defense is not set, our top 6 is not set. Kane while I think can change, is not the most locker room friendly person so it seems

Yes, they were absolutely lining up. This has been widely reported by the respected names in hockey reporting. If he weren't oft-injured and had the red flags around him he wouldn't have been available at all. Guys with his skill and grit don't usually get traded and it usually doesn't work out for the team that trades them.
Yeah, our D is going to be nails. The Zads and Risto should be a big and mean top pair that can really skate. Bogo slots next to Pysyk on the second pair and the third pair is probably McCabe and Gorges. It seems that getting a top line and good D are the hardest thing to do and we would have these checked off.

He beat the rush, not jumped the gun. We traded for a 23 year old and a 24 year old. They are part of the build, not a complimentary finishing piece like Kessel would be.

Probably, this is a player he's really wanted for sometime now so I'm not surprised he jumped the gun/overpaid.
Hopefully it fits in well with his plans, no choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt.
