Ok, he's an nhl defenseman. That's as far as I'll go.

I think the cap savings on the worst part of their buyout is around 2 mil. So they can certainly find a UFA every summer on a one year deal that can contribute and the cap hit at worst is a wash.

I like the idea of splitting up G and Jake because they're both playmakers but what bugs me is this need to keep the fourth line together at all costs. The Fourth line seems to generate the most opportunities most nights but not every night. I don't think it would be the end of the world to offer exspanded roles for these players separately. Vinny might be able to score if he's being fed the puck. Vandevelde might be good for the second PP unit. Even Derian Hatcher tried out as the net front presence on the PP during our last place season and it worked. Personally I think Brayden Schenn has benefited more then G and Jake by coming off that line.
