I don't get why everyone wants to trade our prospects D who have shown they can play NHL now, minus Harrington (next year) for a three month rental that has 23 points in 51 games. This is why our system is depleted. I understand the win now, but we need these guys next year on their ELCs as well. - znagle
So two years from today we can sit here and talk about which rental defenseman we are trading our first round pick for.. Rinse and repeat.

Bergenhein and Winnik aren't centers either. And I wouldn't call Tlusty a perimeter player. Most his goals are scored from in close. Plays a lot like Fedotenko did - willi
Winnik is a center, Bergenheim would cause Spaling to play 3c |

Asking price on Bergenheim is a 3rd rounder. Toronto can ask for a 2nd+, but I doubt they'll get it. Either way, I'd prefer either of those two as I think their games translate far better for the postseason than Tlusty. Unless Tlusty is gonna play 3C (and he probably could better than Sutter), he is an unnecessary player. Which means GMJR will probably foolishly acquire him for too much. - jfkst1
Jiri Tlusty is a less skilled, more physical Jussi Jokinen. He plays more of a straight up and down game.
I dunno. I'd rather sign the guy if we could, honestly. |

This blog needs more insults directed at parents for naming their kids as they may.
Ryan is such a stupid name, I'd feel sorry for any kid who has to grow up with that name. His parents must have been idiots. |

Toronto is asking too much for winnik... so unless they do a winnik and Kari for sutter dumo/harrington and pick (which pens don't have).. winnik is off the board for pens
Berg is only going for a 3rd. Something pens don't have but can be replaced for d prospect or spaling
And yes if spaling goes then sutter stays...

Berg for a 3rd... does that need to be this year's draft? If not, I'd already be pulling the trigger.
Toronto wants a 2nd plus... Despite my hatred for Sutter, I believe hes worth at least a 3rd round pick, maybe a 2nd. So, him and a 4th or 5th in 2016... if they would take one for next year, should fit that criteria as well.
And there you go, Sutter gone plus a 3rd and 4th/5th for 2 players we want.
edit: to factor in cap shtuff... We are said to have just under 1 mil... those two cost 4 mil, sutter at 3.3... we'd just fit them in! |

Either way, cap will have to move out to bring in either player. |

I doubt Toronto is going to get a 2nd+ for a career 3rd liner though. So unless they want to lose him for nothing (Shanahan might bash Nonis' skull in if he did that), they'll take what they can get. |

I don't think this worls cap wise.. Isn't Berg like 4.5 or something? Maybe they could retain. I feel they would take pretty much anything they can for him as they have no use for him. Pretty much just give him away to highest bidder. |

Winnik is a winger who has occasionally played center. ...less that 1000 career faceoffs in 10 NHL seasons. |

Got it. We'd have to move Sutter first to TOR obviously, then pick up Berg with the cap space we'd have. |

Which means he is 10X better than Sutter in the 3C slot.

So, to be clear, you'd rather acquire a 30 year old who has never scored more than 11 goals or 30 points in a season averaging a 33 point pace over the past 3 seasons, rather than a 27 year old who has scored at a 45 point per season pace over the past 3 seasons? |

They've been scratching him but early in the season against us anyway he was on there 2nd line had a lot of speed. I liked him |
