Great point that hasnt really been brought up in this time of turmoil.

I would not deal Marian Hossa. At his cap hit, with his ability, even at his age, he is a huge bargain.

John Jaeckel: What’s The Plan, Stan?
- John Jaeckel

I agree 100%. Bowman has been sitting on his hands for 2 years since the Hawks won the cup. Action is NEEDED to make this team a top 4 club in the NHL. Right now they are a top 16 club, nothing more. I said this yesterday but lost my comment in the 40+ pages lol...Would the hawks be better off with Marc Bergevin or Kevin Chevy as GM? hard to say but as Bowman's bad contracts, missed opportunities and general ineptitude as a championship caliber GM continues...his leash is getting shorter...or at least should be...being scotty bowmans son only goes so far...

From sports talk radio in EDM here, it seems a lot of people would rather the Oilers acquire NHL ready or near NHL ready younger players instead of draft picks (who won't help the team til 3 years down the road) when it comes to Petry.

I'm totally spitballing, but something involving Raanta, Rundblad or Erixon and a mid round pick maybe works for Petry.

Probably would have to be Raanta

Hendricks, Purcell, Petry
- John Jaeckel

It would be great to get Hendricks along with Petry. Watching that guy take a faceoff is like watching Steve McMichael rush the quarterback.

A lot of what you said here makes sense but i have to take exception with the sharp contract being bad...he has scored 20 or more goals 7 times, including 30 or more 4 times, for this organization and was a legit Conn Smythe contender in 2010.

Bickells, bad
Crawfords, meh...market driven. look around at top goalies...in a year or 2 it will look very good.
Sharps, very good.

- dsav123

I'm not arguing that Crawford or Sharp has been bad or would be bad on another team. It's all conditional on keeping 20 mil locked up with Kane and Toews. To spend 6 on a goalie and another forward with those two contracts, they have to carry a helluva load. Otherwise, you continually run into lack of depth on bottom lines and pairings much like what Pitts often experiences.

Also, I don't always agree with what JJ posts here, but I loved this blog. Bang on.

This is Stan Bowman's biggest test as a GM. He has to do something one way or the other (either getting pieces, or selling). Doing nothing is not an option and a fireable offence to me.

1. You're assuming Kane makes it back in top shape with a perfect recovery
2. Bottom pairing D won't be the impact you need in the playoffs, and why give something up for it?

- Vegas Trotzkies

#2

Sure it will.

If the Hawks are throwing Keith Seabrook Hammer a healthy Oduya and a healthy TVR plus a D man aquired at the deadline the Hawks will be in good shape.

The Hawks have enough O even without Kane IF , AND I say IF the D is healthy and a piece added.

.... or waste a year of Toews
.....or Seabrook
....or Keith
.....or Hammer

... well you get the picture.

- CaptainBlackhawk

More importantly, waste a year of Hossa

who will rapidly age in short order

He will still always be a solid hockey player, but how much longer will Hoss be the hoss we have all known and love?

How much longer does he have left as a top line winger? I say this year and next and thats it

We made a big risk and calculated gamble with his contract, they should be trying to reap the rewards of that circumvention as much as they can while he is playing like the player they went out and got, because it will only get uglier down the line

As I said in thr last blog , If Bowman does right this weekend before the deadline and the Hawks have June succuess he could finally shut everyone up about Dale Vs Stan and whose team this is really. I hope Bowman is salavating to prove this is his team.

Agrees. Any payback I think was done last game. Maybe the typical fight at the beginning of the game jsut becuase you are talking about Kaner. But I don't see any ill intent on that hit. Dangerous spot to hit someone sure but 9 times out of 10 Kane doesn't lose his footing and there is no injury.
- Vark37

Great pay back would be winning tonight and thus, hurting (if only a little) FLA's chances of a PO spot...

Hossa,Keith, and 4 are the best, maybe most underrated, things going for the Hawks capwise based on talent

You think a move for JVR would need a guy like TT included or another top flight prospect?

At this price through the rest of his contract, he can decline and STILL be very much worth the contract he'll be under. I'm not worried about Hossa over the next few years, at the deal the Hawks have him signed to.

Raanta, McNeill, Danault, Dahlbeck, Johns each fit into the category of what EDM could use to fill out their roster. Obviously not all of them. But . . .
