Sven Baertchi (I don't know how the (frank) you spell it) is an excellent pick up. Under a guy like WD who is known for moulding young talent. I think this trade is amazing. It's so odd to see our organization that does nothing but pick up vets at the deadline do a complete 180 and go after young guys since the beginning of the year.
Agree, 30+ points is solid for the majority of rookies in the NHL. He has had his ups and downs, shown really good offensive instincts, his downside I think is his physical maturity. After a full season against NHL bodies, he'll know what needs to happen this offseason and I am sure he will be more consistent next year - WhiteLie
Disagree. Most of his goals come form in front of the net. Take a look at this highlight video. It's not great but give it a second. Watch where his goals are scored from. He drives to the net and doesn't look out of place or timid.

Benning on 1040 now, says he expects Baertschi to be in our top 6 someday, for now stays in Utica - probably the first call-up in case of injury
Had inquiries on Kassian, and called teams regarding Kassian, pleased with the way Kassian is playing and nothing out there was enticing enough
"We're not trading Chris Higgins" - never received any calls and is not going to ask him to waive

Sorry. my fault. I'm just excited we got a good prospect instead on an aging vet rental. - bloatedmosquito
Me too. Its nice to say we have some promise from players that are in their 20's! Through our prospects and a few deals, even Conacher (though expectations are extremely low) is only 25. Benning is retooling very well I think
Benning: Not a single call regarding interests in Higgins - Whiskey-Tango
That's not true. A bunch of coke dealers in NY called hoping that Higgins would be traded back to the rangers. Sales aren't as good as they used to be.

Benning is a beast! I am floored at how shrewd of a deal-maker he is.
After years of Nonis/Gillis, this is incredibly refreshing and reassuring......

In Gillis' defence, he had a far superior team and was trying to add veteran pieces for deep cup runs.
But I still hate that piece of shyt.
I love the fact that benning is getting younger and giving up practically nothing in order to do so.
Sven is going to be a very good player. What a great move. - vancity787
I agree to an extent, but the amount of poop trades he made absolutely makes me nauseous........he could have been a bit more creative than trading for Panther re-treads....

No kidding. Prospect pool starting to fill up. Creating a winning environment in the minors. Rewarding players by giving rookies a chance to play in the bigs (mostly because of injuries, but you know what I'm saying).
Times are looking better but remember good hockey management should be expected not celebrated. About (frank)ing time this organization does it right.
