There goes the Cal-Van first round dream.....(frank)ing LA - belcherbd
I'm surprised CAL didn't pick up a Dman with all the picks they acquired in the last few days. Kinda gives off the preception that making the playoffs would just be gravy for them.

Who knows, I have been expecting them to start sucking all year, maybe they keep it up a bit longer. The loss of Gio is huge tho.

Some of his choices are turning out ok. I think Biega is one of his. And so was Kenins. - bloatedmosquito
Bo as well, I think I was one of the people who wanted him to draft the Russian. But the Grenier/Mallet picks still annoy the hell outta me along with the Roy trade. And he was willing to trade picks for Clowe as well at that same TDL. Ugh.

If I was a Flames fan I'd actually be pretty happy about it. Shows that their management is smart enough to realize they aren't contenders, especially with Giordano.

There's like a 1 or 2 spot difference if they make the playoffs if I werre the flames Id rather see some playoff action for their young players

I'm talking about them trading picks/prospects to acquire help for this year. I'm sure they'd rather make the playoffs, but not at the expense of giving up future assets to get better short-term.

But what would the cost be to find a player that can help replace Gio....If they had gone after Wis, they would have to sacrifice some decent prospects/picks.

I would have gone for Aaron Rome. They look the same I'm sure the opponents won't notice.
He seems good enough. Has a better PPG average then McCann. - manvanfan
He's a year older as well, doesn't seem like much but it's a big difference at the CHL level. I wouldn't be pencilling him or holding my breath until he produces in the AHL.

they were smart and still realize its a real build year, and not trade for the playoffs.

its just a case that he played on LW, and they're saturated in that position.
he wants to play, and projects as a top 6 winger. I just wished he brought in a rw or rd to fill those voids.
I can see him and virtanen becoming solid wings on either side of horvat. Horvats 2 way play can cover baerts weaker areas - numbear
I'd like to see how he does with the Canucks AHL team before getting too excited, but it seems like a win-win form both perspectives considering the situations for both clubs.
