The old "change in scenery" might be just what the kid needs.

I remember when that Bishop to Tampa trade happened and I thought it seemed like the Sens were stealing Conacher. But he hasn't done much since. Hope the whole change in scenery thing works for him too.

Maybe with a good AHL team these guys will get their confidence up and make some steps in development.

He started the year on a line with J. Tavares.... if that doesn't jumpstart offense I don't know what will

Best quote of the day

Benning on Baertschi " We're going to give him the love that he needs"

I heard that and laughed as well

Conacher I see as more of an AHL deal
- bezz44

Yep. Didn't cost much, so if he can get it together, great, if not, not really a loss.

They are both almost ppg players in the AHL. Conacher seems like the next best career AHLer.

It is strange we have Weber, Sbisa and now Baertschi

Maybe Benning thinks he has discovered some untapped well of Swiss players.

Good interview with Benning regarding Kassian, Benning is a funny guy to listen to with his "likes" and "uhhs" but he is a good interview and very honest.

Benning is a beast! I am floored at how shrewd of a deal-maker he is.

After years of Nonis/Gillis, this is incredibly refreshing and reassuring......

- chompsey

Looks to me like hardly anyone would trade with Gillis. JB is making trades with multiple teams and good trades inside our own division more than once already....

I hate seeing a 2nd in this draft go but I'm completely confident that Benning has a plan to acquire a replacement 2nd.

I was reading a post on the trade over on Flames Nation and they mentioned that it might just be the call up Baertschi had when he did so well that was his undoing at the organization as it gave such lofty expectations that he couldn't live up to. At least not right away. Simultaneously the performance of Gadreau above and beyond expectations may have sealed the deal.

Yep. Sounds like he is so hokey.

The only thing better is the WD in game face.

Yeah, I feel like GM's are going to start to notice that Benning isn't the type of guy who's gonna holdup a trade asking for a conditional 6th or overvaluing his assets as much as Gillis did. That means he'll receive more calls when teams are looking to make a move.

sending away picks for more NHL ready players. Quicken the rebuild. Retool. Youth movement.

Teams probably aren't hanging up the phone when the Canucks are calling anymore. I don't have any insider insight but there must have been a reason we only traded with the same teams over and over.

It's amazing how some people still don't realize the hundreds of players who put up decent CHL numbers and never become full-time NHL'ers. I'm stil waiting for Mallet to become the next Burrows and I thought Hodgson was our Toews.
- Nucker101

I thought it was Boinker who I remember saying Hodgson was the next Toews. It was you?

I don't feel so bad now. I only had him as a 2nd line C in my mind.

Yep.

I didn't realize it was only 5 games, thought it was closer to 10.

I thought Baertschi was smaller like Gaudreau, but 5.11 isn't too bad. Just hope he can get it together.

Boinker kept calling him Cody Franchise. That speaks for his expectations loud and clear.

For what it's worth I too saw him as our 2C and nothing more. If anyone needed a change of scene in the league right now it's Cody Hodgson.

Gillis also had bridges burned before he even took the job. Now Benning is making trades with Burke which will pay off in franchise players eventually.
