I'm not thrilled with the trade. I much preferred it when it was rumoured to be a 2017 2nd. I feel there are so many quality defensive prospects available in the 2nd/3rd rounds this year that we'll be missing on a good opportunity to stock the barest part of our cupboard. It is now paramount that we make a really good choice in the 1st round or we could end up whiffing on the deepest draft in years. |

I would guess that Benning doesn't expect us to have a healthy lineup, and with the intensity heating up as we get closer to the playoffs, that's probably a pretty safe assumption. - CubanBuffet
I get that you have to be prepares for injuries but that might mean one of the hottest (offensively) and most physical players has to sit while waiting for someone to be injured.

I hear what you are saying and initially thought the same when it was confirmed 2015 but I think baertschi has a better chance of making an impact on this team than any other prospect next year IMO which is pretty exciting.

Maybe we'll continue to be fortunate and find later round gems like Bieksa, Edler or free agent signings like Tanev but we haven't had a stud D prospect since Bourdon. |

Not really up to date on the later prospects. Who would we want around the 16-25 range? |

Benning said he had a choice of giving up a 2nd this year or next. He said he thought next year's draft was even deeper than this one. I think he might know a bit more about the prospects than you... |

So not much happened today, as expected. I like that Benning got some younger guys instead of older players. Sven is an interesting acquisition. |

Meh, when it was at its peak I was a kid, and I just didn't understand the jokes. Never felt a need to watch the show, despite the hype |

I think the trade could potentially be really good. He was ranked #7 by Central Scouting in his draft year. In 66 games, Baertschi was third the Flame's for ES Points Per 60 for skaters with over 200 minutes played. That's Bo/Vrbata/Daniel ES territory for offense despite being benched/scratched/sent to the minors. |

Bezz, Bezz, Bezz shame on thee lol.....Seinfeld was probably one of the funniest sitcoms ever made. Of course I understand it's a bit of an acquired taste and if you were just a pup than it makes sense you wouldn't get a lot of the jokes/references etc. But I think, for me anyway, it stands up as one of the best actual 'laugh out loud' efforts on mainstream t.v. |

This TD for us was all about treading water. Obviously JB didn't want to tinker with the lineup so he avoided trading any roster players. I don't see either of these moves as anything but adding depth to the Comets and prospect depth at forward. Not a fan of the Baertschi move, I realize that he's roughly the equivalent of what we'd probably get if we used that 2nd round pick, but we already have a couple undersized skill forwards in Shinkaruk who plays for the Comets and Vey who's on the NHL roster and who has more room to grow than Baertschi.
I guess my disappointment stems from the fact that we still haven't addressed the lack of a PMD who can QB the PP (even though I do know how expensive that would likely have been and how there probably wasn't anyone available). The St. Louis game really showed how with a D who can move the puck out of trouble, either by being able to skate it out, or make that great first pass can put the defensive team on their heels.
Makes me wonder what JB's plans are in the off-season and draft, and what the overall plan and expectation for this team is this year. Obviously it's making the playoffs, but these moves don't indicate to me that they're gearing up for the playoffs, which is why I say it's treading water. They didn't get better or worse in my view and that scares me, I think it's pretty safe to say unless we go on a long losing streak, we're likely to make the playoffs (and get swept in the first round or in 5 games). - DariusKnight
He's addressing the depth issues in the organization this year, and that's it. We know that they've been told to make the playoffs, and this team looks good enough to do just that. Why pay for something when the odds favouring you doing that thing anyway?
I think the Baertschi is excellent management. He's brought in a player who automatically becomes one of our better prospects, and undoubtedly our best LW prospect. He's also, by assigning Markstorm, Kenins, and Corrado to the minors and bringing them back up, left one more spot for Baertschi.
More than likely, he'll be willing to trade picks to shore up our organizational depth, and then stop shipping out picks to build his cupboard through the draft.
Edit: Clendenning was assigned and reassigned, not Corrado. |

Would be nice, right now I hope we don't take someone like Merkley anymore, we just acquired another player with his skill set. |
