He's addressing the depth issues in the organization this year, and that's it. We know that they've been told to make the playoffs, and this team looks good enough to do just that. Why pay for something when the odds favouring you doing that thing anyway?

I think the Baertschi is excellent management. He's brought in a player who automatically becomes one of our better prospects, and undoubtedly our best LW prospect. He's also, by assigning Markstorm, Kenins, and Corrado to the minors and bringing them back up, left one more spot for Baertschi.

More than likely, he'll be willing to trade picks to shore up our organizational depth, and then stop shipping out picks to build his cupboard through the draft.

Edit: Clendenning was assigned and reassigned, not Corrado.

Like Lefty said Gillis left us a generation gap in our prospect pool . JB is filling that gap

Thank god, we've got Benning...Gillis left us in a position where we would have been = to, if not worse than Toronto/Edmonton.

Bezz, Bezz, Bezz shame on thee lol.....Seinfeld was probably one of the funniest sitcoms ever made. Of course I understand it's a bit of an acquired taste and if you were just a pup than it makes sense you wouldn't get a lot of the jokes/references etc. But I think, for me anyway, it stands up as one of the best actual 'laugh out loud' efforts on mainstream t.v.
- Zogg

Yea, it's too bad because I know it's on a lot of people's lists of best shows/comedies and I just never felt any inclination to watch it

Yea man, although we don't have any prospects with blue chip potential, we do have players now that can conceivably play top 6 roles. I also respect the fact that JB is looking at the whole organization from the Kalamazoo Wings up to the Canucks. If he succeeds in meeting his vision for the organization, he will have manufactured the best period in this organizations history. Not to detract from the SCF, but that was a blip. I want this team to be a perennial contender.

With all of these young guys being waiver eligible next year(Clendening/Beartschi/Vey/Pedan) I'd imagine Benning is planning is probably going to be trading a vet. Especially if he re-signs 2 of Dorsett/Matthias/Richie.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is better than Seinfeld IMO. Have you seen that?

They probably wont even be exposed to waivers. As long as they start the season in the minors, and are called up on emergency basis, they are protected. There are some limitations to that rule, but I suspect that JB will do his best to limit the risk associated with waivers.

You sure? I thought all players that are invited to main camp that weren't waiver exempt had to be waived?

I believe they have a deadline thats associated with opening night. Before then, they can send a player down waiver exempt.

edit: Dont quote me. I'll do some due diligence right now.

It's created by Larry David (same guy that created Seinfeld). The shows straight comedy. Check it out if you ever have a chance. I never liked Seinfeld either, but CYE is probably one of my favourite comedy series ever.

13.2 The "Playing Season Waiver Period" shall begin on the twelfth (12th) day prior to the start of the Regular Season and end on the day following the last day of a Club's Playing Season. Subject to the provisions of this Article, the rights to the services of a Player may be Loaned to a club of another league, upon fulfillment of the following conditions, except when elsewhere expressly prohibited:

(a) Regular Waivers were requested and cleared during the Playing Season Waiver
Period; and

(b) the Player has not played in ten (10) or more NHL Games cumulative since
Regular Waivers on him were last cleared, and more than thirty (30) days cumulative on an NHL roster have not passed since Regular Waivers on him were last cleared.

12 days is a substantial amount of time, but guy's like Pedan will be sent down before then. So basically, the day after the regular season ends, up until the 12th day before opening night, all players are waiver exempt.

- Bieksa#3

Straight to Utica. He'll likely be on the playoff roster for both teams though.

Anyone miss me.

I got a 24 hour ban for this:

I went into the Toronto room and offered this:

1st Rounder
Vey
Higgins
Richardson
Burrows
Kassian
Conditional 2nd Rounder

For

Kessel
Phaneuf
Kadri
Conditional 3rd Rounder

They were so offended they banned me.

Does anyone know if Baertschi has been assigned straight to Utica or if he'll get a cup of coffee with the big club? I assume that he'll head to Utica for the rest of the season.

With his skill, a second line of Baertschi-Bonino-Vrbata might be pretty decent next season.

Something like this for next year:

Sedin-Sedin-Kass
Baertschi-Bonino-Vrbata
Vey-Matthias-Burrows
Kenins-Bo-Hansen
Dorsett (him and Vey battle for spots)

Burrows, Vrbata, and Kassian can cycle throughout the lineup. Whoever needs to get going, put him with the Sedins for a bit.
