What if he asks for like 4 Million? A big guy who can play center and wing coming off of a 20 goal season might just get a stupid offer as a UFA. If he's willing to give a discount I'd imagine it's gonna around 3.5M per.

Who are you replacing him with on the top pair ? Bieksa is not capable and is horrible with Edler.

Maybe they can bring a UFA in like Ehrhoff or Boychuck but they will cost a hell of a lot more and not sure how much of an improvement they will be.

I agree, but I also could see them being a few moves away from contending for a playoff spot next year. If Smith gets back to half of what he is capable of, this years pick, Domi, Duclair enter the line-up, plus natural progression of their existing young D (and OEL) they could be fighting for wildcard (maybe helped by a FA move or two). Buffalo has zero chance of making the playoffs, they arent even set up to even be close
