I'm afraid of overpaying either of them. But I'd rather overpay Tlusty and trade Matthias for a 2nd and prospect then just overpay Matthias and not have the extra pick and prospect.

Matthias is a career 10.3% shooter(including this year's totals), he's at 14.3% this year alone. So in reality he's a 16 goal scorer..no way in hell I'd pay more than 3M for him.

It would be different if he had some other intangibles, If he was a big hitter like Brouwer and getting 15 goals or was a really good face-off guy, I could see paying him more than 3. At his point though he is a younger Higgins but isn't as good defensively or as physical even if he is bigger.

Keep the fancy stats, you won't get a second for Matthias in the offseason. The team of interest can just wait until July 1 St.

I see what Matthias can do and I am willing to take that chance and move burrows and Higgins instead

I like Matthias as a bottom 6 guy. If he has illusions of making top 6 money he should be dealt immediately.

Ask your self this. Would you rather Burrows and Higgins next year with their 17 goals 7 mil combined salary and two roster spots or Mathias 4 Mil 16 goals and one roster spot.

Also the two draft picks you get for Higgins and Burrows

I wonder if this Conacher deal has more to it. As of right now the C depth for Utica is

O'Reilly
Acton
Friesen

I wonder if they want to try Gaunce in the middle or if they are going to try and get Vey back down? Maybe add a different C prospect?

This isn't Corsi, it's just logic and simple math man. Players just don't suddenly up their career shooting percentage by 2-3%, let alone 4% at the age of 27 after, almost 400 games into their NHL careers.

I was suggesting trading him today and selling high for a very good return, but that would obviously look bad and the players on the team would be pissed.

Players usually do improve their numbers when they are playing 3 Rd line on a bottom 3 team and being traded to play on a top 15 team.

I'm totally on board with moving Higgins for picks.....Burrows won't happen but if it did I would be happy. None of that makes Matthias worth 4 million a year in my books.

Going with your scenerio I would probably prefer Higgins at 2.5 and move Burrows and Matthias for picks freeing up more salary.

They don't improve their career shooting percentages unless they're playing with an elite offensive playmaker or are just having a career high season.

Whatever our scenarios are for getting extra picks Benning won't weaken this team when we're bound for the playoffs.

Any trades made today will be hockey trades to either swap positional players for need or bolster the lineup full stop. He won't dish out players for picks IMO.
