But that goes back to what you value in a defenseman...i am of the school that if your defender can keep the puck in the offensive end for 60%+ of his shifts then i'll accept a slightly weaker 'defensive' side to their game. Keeping the puck in the offensive zone to me is a fantastic defensive strategy.

I dont think playing the PK is neccesarily a key component of being the best defenseman. If Karlsson scored 90 pts would that be enough to negate that fact that he doesn't play the PK? By not playing the pk he stays fresher and maybe scores a goal he otherwise wouldnt...but again it all comes back to what a particular person values.

- DirtyDozen

But if you're referring to CORSI, not a single player in the NHL with over 10 games played has a 60% CORSI. So, if you're going by that school, your theory doesn't apply to a single player in the NHL.

Exactly. Different systems will allow different Dmen to thrive... They are all great players, but they would have different values (usually higher on the team they're already on, given that the system is usually built with that particular Dman in mind)
- Mr_Clean

Even the top end forwards have their values skewed, some teams need an elite scorer while some teams need that sublime two way talent. It's so hard to just say these are the top 5 defenders and that's that.

Wanted him earlier in the year, I'm good without him now. If we have to get a defenseman I'd rather him over Phanooof.

My top 5 D all around:

1-Weber
2- PK Subban
3- Doughty
4- Keith
5- Karlsson

Would I trade PK for any of those guys? No.
Doughty is close, but id bet anything that Doughty on a Habs team would not perform as well as PK right now. and if PK with LA, we'd be talking about him as the clear favourite for the Norris every year.
I know i sound like a homer, but those that know me know i look at things very neutraly... Take the time to think about what i'm saying...

EDIT
PS. As a Habs fan that get to see Ottawa play quite often: people tend to Underestimate Karlsson's capabilities in his own end. People saying that he sucks defensivly are way overexagerating. He does a GOOD job in his own end but just not at the same level IN HIS OWN END as some of the other elite defencemen in the league.

- Habs-Sam
so your being a habs fan gives you some special insight, but from judging by your words, it clearly doesn't give you any bias either

you saying youre not a homer doesn't actually mean that you aint bro

I actually agree with your list. Doughty would get more points if he was less concerned about the defensive side of things. But I'm cool with how he plays. Don't know much about Karlsson, but the guy puts up the numbers. Can't argue with that. Good article.

1) "As a Habs fan"= just means I most likely get to see them play more often than teams out west.
+ Their games are the 2nd most broadcasted here in Montreal, even on nights Habs are playing.
2) LA > Habs. Doughtly has a lot of offensive threats to support him up front compared to PK.

You are clearly a fool...
Just please stick to watching your team continuously s*ck and pathetically pick top 3 every year... I think that's more than enough for your "capabilities"...

beauty response. and typical.

his response is to call out the team I cheer for

I didn't actually pick the team ya know. or were you under the impression im mact doin some hockeybuzz posting?
also, since when is the prerequisite for hockey knowledge being a fan of a good team?
so in your estimation all Blackhawk and blues fans are brilliant hockey minds?

the personal attack was par for the course as well.

your entire post was literally a calvacade of typical retorts from a guy without a leg to stand on. outside of his own bias of course.

again,
"if pk was in LA, hed be the clear front runner for the Norris every year"
"but im not a homer"

and yeah, I get that u meant u watch mtl more than non hab fans.

....and im the fool?

but wait, if I watch more wild games than him and think suter is the best, does this cancel out both our opinions?

or do we need to show proof of actual minutes watched and then the winner gets the Norris?
this is hard

of course. goes without saying. and since you see him more than non oiler fans, your opinion is infallible....

I think the question is meant to be, who's the best defender in the game OUTSIDE of oskar 'the abs' klefbom

Who said my opinion matter more?
You guys have your opinions, I have mine.
It's a founded opinion... Doughty is considered as constant Norris contender every year and I'm arguing that PK would have the same recognition if he was with LA.

It's just that your comrade doesn't seem to understand english too well and is making is own conclusions
(and gets b*tthurt too easily )

against pk being the front runner every year if he played in LA?

oh bro, I think you missed the point from the start.
I really don't need to say much.
common sense does this for me.

but keep em comin.
the oiler bashing did alot to strengthen your point too!!

Usually the big 3 are Chara, Weber and Suter going into a season, no? Chara is being pushed out due to age in favour of younger guys like Karlsson, Subban, Doughty, and Keith.

If Ottawa makes the playoffs they will challenge any team they play, especially Montreal if God should allow us this match up. There are a few games where Montreal has played well against Ottawa and where Subban has had great games. But, for the most part, Karlsson plays a bigger game than Subban when matched head to head. We will see a match later this week.
