Thank you for acknowledging that Karlsson is more than Offense, cause he really is.
Tired of that storyline. |

Did you write that just because you'd hate to see PK Subban or Erik Karlsson win?

Hard to disagree with that list - Hossa1881
Maybe, but we'll see who's on the list tomorrow after I try to look at it with more of a statistical bent rather than just what I feel. |

So much fail... everyone knows points = Best Defenseman award... So its Letang due to a higher +- then Karlssen on tied points. |

But he's not even close to as bad as people think. Plus, he's a possession dominating player who has excelled under bad circumstances since he got a new coach.

The only player to ever win the Norris and Selke in the same year. |

PLayoff Drew Doughty, absolutely.
In season Drew Doughty, no way
He just looks lost and makes bad gambles/pinches way too often in season and often goes long stretches with looking invisible on the ice and not really an impact player
Doughty is turnover machine in season, a big reason he hasnt been nominated for the Norris since what, 2010? |

Eastern bias. To not have Giordano in there is just retarded. |

Hard to argue with the list, or the approach. I think the eye test is important beyond stats. I would rework the order a bit, but the players on the list are consensus all-league D. And while I think Weber & Subban should be 1-2, I would also agree that Karlsson is more than just a points machine, and Doughty is no slouch. As for Karlsson, I've heard lots of arguments against him (and I've made some at times). But, holding the puck effectively in the opponents' end reduces offensive chances for your opponent, so that is a skill that if often overlooked when evaluating defensemen.
