Thoughts ?


3 on 3 at the start of the OT.
Winner 1 pt
Loser 0 pt

That would get the game more important to be won in regulation.
Teams with star power would want to drag the game into OT if there wasn't a penalty in the point system. Dropping it to 1pt for the win would discourage it.

first 5 minutes of OT, 4 on 4

winner gets 2 points
loser gets zip


if still no goals, play 5 minutes of 3 on 3

winner gets 2 points
loser gets zip

if they are tied after 10 minutes of ot, then each team gets a point


so easy a caveman can figure it out

Teams will just coast by in the OT and wait for the shootout. I think you could make this the penalty for the game going to a shootout with the OT still worth the full two points

These conspiracy theories don't hold alot of water.
our canadian markets are financially viable regardless. Toronto can be a bottom feeder year in and out and will still be the leagues richest team.
Edmonton has been a bottom feeder for ages and is an incredibly small market. still makes money and sells out year after year.

if I believed in conspiracy theories, Saving an American market and driving bettmans vision for the nhl in Arizona or Carolina etc could make sense I suppose. but not toronto

But the market will fill someone's pocket. I guess my point is that everyone's dirty. We're ALL on the take in some way. We all have our price. For the right money greasing the right palms I could see Tonto winning the lottery.

Obviously the city isn't short on cash and doesn't need McDavid but for the right price I think MLSE is hungry/greedy enough and under enough pressure to find a way to find that one person that could, wait.... Here it comes..... Fix the draft.
