I didn't want to keep him. My point is that the people we moved seemed to be considered throw away assets for some reason
Armia is now a bust
Lemieux would never play here
1st round picks don't matter
Myers sucked
Stafford sucks
It's been quite the opposite so far. - sbroads24
I don't think anybody, not one person considered Myers as a throwaway asset.
Stafford was not being brought back anyway, according to most.
Yes, the 1st round pick is meaningful, as are the two prospects, but as 89 said, Armia was not in Murray's long term plans.
Because Armia was in yours, it means Murray shouldn't have done the deal? |

Personally, I would have kept all three 1st round picks this year and found another way to make that Jets trade work without giving one of them up. - kingcong39
i would have liked them to trade one of our lower 1sts and a 2nd and have the jets add in their 1st.. as of now it looks like that wouldn't have worked out to be a lottery pick, but i would have been willing to take the shot at it.. |

They could get a top 6 guy for the present without giving up a 1st +
Sharp
Ericsson
Someone like that - sbroads24
Sharp is such a monumental waste of time it's unbelievable that people want him on this team. Eriksson can be a decent target. He doesn't exactly fit the mold of TM but it wouldn't be a terrible bargain pickup. |

Eriksson would be a huge get for GMTM, IMO.
If you are planning on starting both Reinhart and hopeful McDavid next year.
Eriksson/Moulson/Ennis/Kane as your top 6 wingers. |

He's 1 year removed from a 70 point season. 2x cup winner
Yet people want Justin Williams. |

I've liked him as a player for some time now.
As long as the bean is fine, he'd be a very good winger to play on a line with Reinhart. |

the only issue I see is Having Moulson and Ennis or Eriksson and Ennis on a line with Reinhart is very little in terms of space clearing/ protection.

Brian Gionta is a cup winner too. How many people want Justin (frank)ing Williams? And if they do, he's a UFA. If Sharp was UFA, I'd say fine whatever, don't waste too much money on him. Trading any asset beyond a 3rd round pick is...again.. a monumental waste of time. Let's pretend that this year, at 33 years old, where players are proven to begin the downside of their careers, that this is an outlier year and Sharp is again a 60-70 point guy next season. Now imagine where the Sabres will be next year with or without him. Stanley cup contender? Doubt it. Once we are in that contending region, Sharp will be getting the Gionta treatment. Quote me on it. |

One player I would really like to see GMTM make a move on is Wayne Simmonds, but he is signed to a great contract and Philly has no reason to trade him.
I cant see any reasonable offer that is nothing short of an overpayment for him. |

Sharp is only 33. Gionta hasn't had a 50 point season in years let alone a 70 point one.
So now trading assets is a bag thing? But trading 2 2nds and a player for a prospect and Delauriers is an under rated move? |

Gionta is not here to score. Trading for Sharp, the idea would be for scoring. You made the point of "cup winner" so I retorted with our own cup winner. Said nothing about points. Again, Gio isn't here for that. Gorges isn't either. Everyone else on this team is less than 30 or a free acquisition ala Matt Moulson.
I never said trading assets is a bad thing. I think it's a great thing. If you target players appropriate for this rebuild. I don't see Sharp or anyone of his age as appropriate. If Murray trades for a guy in his declining years for purposes of short term offense, I'll give you the McGuizzy treatment and eat a boiled shoe on your front lawn. |

More likely everyone had to get back to work and show some production for the day. Well, almost everyone. |

No worries today since the Sabres lost last night.
Now come Friday, they better triple the security working during the day. |

Value able player ++++ is the problem.
It's almost laughable at this point to call Myers and Bogosian a wash.
Myers is playing better than Bogosian ever did in Winnipeg - sbroads24
This was in response to a POST regarding the value of the players within the trade. I never pointed to Myers/Bogosian as a wash. I prefer Bogosian and his style here in Buffalo, but I feel Myers was traded for Evander Kane, Bogosian traded for the picks/prospects. |
