Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Timonen Night - bmeltzer
Bill,
Have you heard of from any " birdies" who the Flyers might really be wanting to go after in the college FA market. I know you listed some names but have you heard of them really targeting anyone? I think a couple of the guys because of their size and skating would be nice. I like Baun and Oksanen. |

Bill you mention that the meetings could get "heated". Could you elaborate a bit more as to what Hextall was emotional/frustrated/angry about?
Did Timonen leave on good terms? |

I hope, for Timonen's sake, Chicago wins the cup this year. He's the only one I care to see win it there, since it's not like Chicago needs another one... but Timonen deserves one. |

Have heard second-hand that they like Brevig (but he's only a sophomore), Brevig (also a sophomore) and Baun (if he forgoes senior year). Wouldn't be surprised if they like Oskanen (though skating is a drawback), Downing and/or Yevenko.

What about O' Connor or Motte? I know O'Connor seems to want playing time right away.
Also I was a little surprised Bailey signed in Toronto considering he played at Penn State. Thought Peluga would get him to buffalo. |

For my own sake I hope the hawks tailspin back to brutal mediocrity/ awfulness. Everyone and their brother claims to a hawks fan in illinois, and a bigger "hockey fan". But when you're talking to a 22 year old "hockey fan" bimbo that has NO clue what she's talking about, it gets really old. Good for the hawks organization that they have a huge fan base... but all them can blow me. They don't know about hockey, they can't name any other player not named Johnathan toews, Patrick kane, marian hossa, or corey Crawford, it's just frustrating (as you can tell by my completely off topic rant). I've tried talking to sooooo many "hockey fans" after the hawks won their first cup, and it just really turned me away from the hawks organization. WHo cares though... I've always liked the flyers better

I was also a bit confused as to why it would be heated |

I'm still bitter against Chicago. Would be tough to root for them even with Timonen. |

The good ol' bandwagon syndrome.. Pittsburgh seems to be another huge offender with that. And no, it's not because I don't like them. You see all of these fan girls (and some boys) wearing Crosby jerseys.. and you ask them to name players on the team, and it's usually "Crosby.. Malkin.. Fleury... anddddd... andddd..." Maybe they bounce one or two other ones off the wall that they dream about having coitus with, but that's usually it.
All fanbases have "those people", but some do tend to be worse than others.. |

I hope they go to the finals.
I'll take their number 2 in 2016. |

I think as the standings currently sit, I'd root for Chicago, Nashville or St. Louis to come out of the West. As for the East, I don't really give a (frank) who gets to the big game, as long as it's not the Rags or Pens (or Bruins if they get back into the 8th seed). I wish a team like Florida would get in, because I could get behind them. |

Oh, I won't root for them.. But I'll just hope Timonen does well, and I won't be sad if he ended up with one. |
