Agreed. Ridiculous comment from somebody who should know (and preach) better...

deserves 2 game suspension. garrison is probably done for the season because of it. and probably lost ceds too. detroit was dirty all game. at least 3 or 4 solid checks from behind. you do that garrison hit that early in the game and only get 2 min then you know you can get away with a lot more. that should have been a 5 min major and a game. and that game is completely different.

I hope you sent this to the Lightning GM. A dirty game all in all but it's that time of year. If Paquette is out for a couple we need to bring Angelinus back up for the tough minutes. Hope Garrison is only a week or so.

I've never played the game but have played a very physical contact team sport in rugby league - no pads to protect (or extremely limited).

So it's in the rules a player can 'lean' on another, even though the player being 'leaned on' is not facing the other & is basically being blind sided, also in a lower body position & his weight distribution is not allowing for any contact, & is right next to the boards? Seems like it turned out to be a cheap shot - now that's easy to see after the fact but how can that be refereed so players aren't 'leaned on' into IR?

I would think - remember I've never played so take that into consideration, that any player not in a position of balance or strength & without the puck cannot be 'leaned on'. Garrison was not upright, he was balanced but tucked & turning so in my inexperienced opinion was not able to take contact. Now add that the boards were right next to him that becomes a dangerous position to be hit. Regardless of him being hit in the back which happens a lot, his position should make it illegal for him to be hit. A little like if a player leaves his feet he is supposed to be sanctioned, the same type of rule can be applied here where players in vulnerable positions cannot be hit.

Garrison was below shoulder height of Abdacker? & an easy target as he was crouched. Abdacker? Also left his feet which indicates he transferred his weight onto a vulnerable player finishing on top. So will the NHL default rule enter - the one where if a player is injured then the offender is sanctioned??

It just looked like a faster skater was going to beat a slower skater to the puck so he got hammered. with that logic a less tougher player should be able to bring out a club to hit a tougher player with!

Great write-up Michael. If that is losing the Physical battle then I can only imagine what's in store for the future and questionable hits against the Lightning.

That tweet by the Player Safety dude and then his followup to his original tweet is a joke. They want to clean the game but its obvious by those tweets they have no idea what they are doing.

Big difference between boarding a defenseless player and slashing at someones shin pads. Neither are right but I would say Abdelkader's hit was much more dangerous of the two. Stamkos gets his shins slashed all the time but he stands up for himself on a few occasions this year it has happened, Pavel slashed back but Garrison had no chance to stick up for himself he was defenseless.

I just think as I said in my prior post about the player safety joke guy the league needs to get the questionable board hits out of the game whether intent is there or not, Abdelakder's hit was questionable for sure. If you don't more injuries will continue to occur as the players will stretch the leash as that is what players do.

How about the very end of the game when Drouin got the exact same treatment but even worse?

Also, if Garrison simply "lost the physical battle", then why would there even be a penalty called in the first place? The referees obviously felt that there was more that went on than garrison losing a physical battle. There is no penalty for that. That tweet was ridiculous, I'm not sure what he was watching.

Hope that's it. It sure was a helluva dirty game. When Detroit gets in a rut they get chippy, no surprise there - losing the physical play or the chippy play? Expect more of the same tonight with the National Diving Team. Do Not let Gallagher run Bishop.

I'd rather Prust runs him. But that's just me.

If Prust runs Bishop then our whole team should continuously run Price every chance they get. Its not like PK would really do anything about it the primadonna he is
