There shouldnt be any doom and gloom to begin with. Even if Sabres finish 29th and draft 3rd -- Hanifin, Strome and Marner go a long way to making this team a contender down the road. The whole point of this rebuild, tank, whatever you want to call it, wasnt about getting McDavid or Eichel. It was about collecting talent at the top of the draft for X number of years to build a winner.

Hanifin is about as easy to project as Ekblad and Doughty were as #1 D men. Strome has the size, IQ and skill to be a scoring line center. Marner has a complete package with a dazzling display. Any other year, these kids would be highly touted top 3 picks and #1 overalls. The top 5 is loaded this year with guys that WILL make a huge impact in the NHL.

This entire year I have remained calm about where we finish. Even if the team blows a guarantee of McEichel, I wont get mad. Its about building a winner and I have no doubts that we can become a winner without McEichel if we ended up with Strome, Marner or Hanifin.
