Yes it is. The favorite doesn't always win. See Kentucky...

That's what they get for being in Kentucky. Same goes for West Virginia.

I'd like to see someone pull a Krieder kamikaze except into Lundqvist.
See how they like it when the tables are turned around.

I know they look bad vs Flyers but if the Pens get their D guys back they could win the east too. Kind of a long shot right now c/w Rags and Habs.

I'd like to see an anvil fall off a skyscraper on to Lundqvis't cartoon character head.

ELC's are capped, as are ELC bonuses. Order of selection makes no difference.
- jmatchett383

Ok. So maybe it would just be the max for bonuses that he'd no doubt achieve.

That's true to a point. There is max salary, and a max amount of bonus money that can be included. A player taken first overall is going to be able to command more bonus money in his deal, then say a player taken in the 8th spot. So it does make a difference.

Interesting mock draft here. They have Carlo at #12, and the quote could have been about Morin two years ago.

we believe there is no way a 6’5″ shut-down defenseman with the skating ability of a much smaller man, the toughness of a young Derian Hatcher and untapped offensive upside will possibly be passed over by 20 NHL teams in the draft.

I don't think so, no.

Bonuses could be a problem... thinking McDavid stands a pretty good chance of triggering a lot of the individual ones.

You don't know what you are missing. It's great. Even though my bracket is a paper airplane by the weekend in round 1. I had Iowa St getting to the Championship game, they were the second team eliminated from the Tourney.
- PLindbergh31

well, we can't all have a perfect bracket like Mr. Brian Williams

I don't have the whole list, but they're for things like games played, All-Star game selections, etc. Braydon Schenn had a fully-loaded bonus contract, so his cap hit (bonuses included) actually went down when he got his raise after his ELC. Some teams like NJ refuse to hand them out (i.e. Adam Larsson).

In regard to previos East playoff talk, I think the Caps are going to be that surprise team this year.

If the Flyers can move Pronger they may actually not have to use LTIR next season and be able pay some bonuses without having them applied to the 16/17 cap.

Friedman talked about the Bruins moving Savard on Saturday, and Pronger's deal is 900K more attractive to cap floor teams.

It's true that NHL teams are suckers for those raw but toolsy kinds of dmen... the rate at which they pan out doesn't seem to be great, tho.

I'm really liking him this year. Seems like he's back to the old highlight reel OV, but has taken a mild interest in defense as well. He was also a riot at the ASG Fantasy Draft.

Wouldn't either/both of those be considered "circumvention?" I'm not opposed to it, but that's what some person/people on here have hinted at in the past.

They also seem to take a long time to develop and end up in other organizations when their potential is actually reached.

You'd have to ask Bettman, but I think the precedent was set with the Thomas trade in 2013. It was done purely to get him off the Bruin's hands and to get the Islanders above the cap floor with no intention of Timmy ever playing for them.
