If the Flyers can move Pronger they may actually not have to use LTIR next season and be able pay some bonuses without having them applied to the 16/17 cap.
Friedman talked about the Bruins moving Savard on Saturday, and Pronger's deal is 900K more attractive to cap floor teams. - Feanor
moving Savard and Pronger seems like a pipe dream to me
The Horton thing was a one off type deal because it was CLB and his deal wasn't insured.
And if they could find a taker which seems unlikely what would they want in compensation for the cap space? I'm thinking it would be at least a 2nd round pick going back. |

I'm really liking him this year. Seems like he's back to the old highlight reel OV, but has taken a mild interest in defense as well. He was also a riot at the ASG Fantasy Draft. - jmatchett383
I think I read he's the only non-Canadian player with six 50+ goal seasons.
He's pushing 500 goals, and he's not 30 yet.
I don't think he'll catch Gretzky, but when he hangs his skates up, he's going to be in the top 3 I would think, barring injury. |

You'd have to ask Bettman, but I think the precedent was set with the Thomas trade in 2013. It was done purely to get him off the Bruin's hands and to get the Islanders above the cap floor with no intention of Timmy ever playing for them. - Feanor
I agree, but Bettman has shown before that he's willing to waive/change rules and decisions as he sees fit. |

Wouldn't either/both of those be considered "circumvention?" I'm not opposed to it, but that's what some person/people on here have hinted at in the past. - jmatchett383
I guess Gary Bettman is the one you want to ask that question. |

I don't know if he'll ever top Howe or Hull. Could definitely push for Esposito/Dionne numbers though. I'd put money on Messier/Gartner type production. |

He's got 474 now at age 29. You don't think he's going to get another 300 goals in his career? |

Pacioretty injured yesterday, and from reading the description it sounds like a concussion. Bad timing for the Habs. |

I think the Flyers and Bruins could expect to get future considerations or a 7th round pick in return. A team like Arizona who got Pronger or Savard be would $4+ million closer to reaching the cap floor for the cost of $575,000. That's a direct saving to them of $3.5+ million, so there's no need to give them a draft pick as well. |

I love coots' passing. He made an awesome no look pass like that in the Detroit game the other week and he set up grossman for a goal. His passing is really underrated. B schenn's passing has looked solid as well. He's been utterly inconsistent in scoring this season, but at least he's been able to set a new personal assist record for himself.

I wouldn't put money on it. He's been very lucky with his health, but I think his reckless pedal to the metal style may eventually catch up with him. |

The Pens D on the Couts play looked Flyeresque, everyone drifting to one side and leaving the middle wide open

Marner vs Strome/McDavid ..........scouts will be there in waves. - ob18
I'll definitely have to fire up the laptop and watch that while watching the NHL on TV. |

I believe NHL rules state that the top 5 contracts on every team need to be insured. |

If that's the case then by all means do it.
To clear salary cap problems in the past has typically cost an asset.
AZ has some young guys that may need new deals soon and 4+M in cap space is a real cost. I guess it depends if they can't make the cap floor.
But if it was me I'd spend the 4M on a UFA that could contribute rather then take on Pronger or Savard. As a fan I'd be mad to see them cheap out on that kind of move |

From what I watch they haven't been bad, but far from the team who had a 3 - 1 series lead.
Game 7 tonight. |

why was Horton not insured?
Maybe prior injury history makes it too expensive? |

If Calgary loses tonight, do you think the Phantoms would offer Sanheim or Fazleev an ATO to finish out the season? I'm assuming the 2nd round of the Q won't start soon enough to raise the same question for Morin, and I think Kelowna has advanced as well. |

They didn't take the 15 minutes to lower their rates. |
