Seguin trade. Cap mismanagement costing them Boychuk. There were reasons. |

Couldn't afford to bring back Iglina who was probably their best play the one season he played for them. |

as someone who's lived through a career ending injury picked myself up and salvaged my life i can emphasize with these players, but i wasnt making millions of dollars before my accident either. i think these athletes' biggest problem is theyre brought up with everyone kissing their asses and making them think theyre more than human. yes psychologically its gotta be hell going from that to having to integrate and assimilate into society, what can be done? im not sure but i think the lack of education athletes recieve is a big problem. how many actually have a bachelors degree? the nhl specifically, i'll be shocked if more than say 20% hold a 4 year degree. having an education, at least imo makes one look forward. case and point I specifically remember rod brind'amours bio from the '95 flyer yearbook saying he wanted to be a phys ed teacher when done with hockey and iirc he does have a degree. and even he didnt so what? where are all these athletes parents when these kids are growing up, or agents or coaches, somebody has to be a mentor or something to these guys and stress the point that you cant play sports forever. then again this isnt the only field where when the career ends ppl struggle to cope, guys get out of the military and have no idea what to do etc.no matter what walk of life you come from you need a certain level of education an ability to plan ahead. |

So in regards to Chiarelli,
The Bruins receiving the 2nd round pick is contingent on them continuing to pay the salary of his contract with them when he was fired. They can refuse the payment and therefore refuse the pick. The pick has a 3 year window, so they don't have to take it this year. They're essentially buying a 2nd rounder with Chiarelli's remaining salary, which is probably a few hundred thousand dollars annually. It'll be interesting to see if they take it. |
