It's chilling to think of Montador's death, and not see the NHL and NHLPA step up efforts to assist former players more, especially after the deaths of Rick Rypien, Wade Belak and Derek Boogaard a few years ago.
Like the NFL, the NHL is facing legal action by former players. if the league and the PA would be more attentive to the needs of former players, maybe Montador's story doesn't end so sadly. |

Im not here to talk about the blog, I'm more curious when Hextall is gonna pull his thumb from his ass and do something? His hire reeked of nepotism not unlike the Oilers, but it doesnt seem to be an issue in Philly. Is Hextall dumb, lazy or cowardly? I have yet to see him significantly improve poop on the Flyers. - Jeropotato
when I see Hexy I will tell him your concerns |

Hey, we can't all have the #1 pick every year (albeit in vain).. some teams have to put more thought, research, and work into their teambuilding. |

Seems like the Oilers have to do more of that, too. |

Being the Sens are loaded at the goaltender position, would a VLC for Craig Anderson trade make sense?
Works perfectly cap wise. Would Anderson be a serviceable backup for Mason? |

Yeah Hextall hasn't done poop in one year with the 16th overall pick except land a future number 1 D man.
How have you guys panned out with with 3, now 4 1st overalls under MacT? Surely that must have put you ahead of our pathetic team.

I think Anderson will still be the #1 in Ottawa. Hey I would do anything to get rid of Vinny but I just don't think the Sens would do it |

They have the Hamburglar, and Lehner. Wasn't this Hammond kid 20-1-2 or something along those lines? |

Don't you fall for that trap. He just wants to be able to female dog about the team's cap management for spending 4 million plus for three more years on a backup goalie.

Yeah, I don't think Vinny is brining us a serviceable player back under any circumstances. |

These guys make a ton of $ and live that life style ....and then $ stops. That's tough to handle.....that is a shock to the system.... not only the cash , but the change to everything these kids have ever known. With all the $ that is produced in Pro sports I hope one day that a focus is placed on life after the playing days are over. Far too, too many sad stories. |

This is how I think the front office should handle Vinny going forward.
They should tell Vinny that other than paying him they are removing themselves from the equation entirely. Tell him his agent can work with any team he wants but he has to negotiate with them. It's not about returns for or from the Flyers, its about what years Vinny is willing to walk away from with that contract. Tell him its either spending the remainder of his time here in the press box, on the planes, away from his family for nothing OR facilitate a trade where you come to an agreement that you walk away in a year or two tops because no one is touching you otherwise. |

And it's easy for those of us without that experience to sit back and judge.. saying things like "How can they do that?!".. but until you're in their shoes, you have no idea. Money, especially so much at such a young age, can really change a person. That new life becomes their way of life, and when that all changes at the drop of a hat, and you haven't been preparing for it, it can be a shocker. Your whole new way of life is gone, and now you have to adapt to an even newer one.
I'm sure it can be quite an experience... and not always in a good way.
We all like to sit in our glass houses... but things are always as simple as what we see from there. |

I would be suprised if Hammond is back as #1 goalie. If they had a lot of faith in him, I think he would be in net for them now. |

If Berube was the issue or he needed time off for personal reasons, they should just rehire Reese. |

Yup, been saying this for months. His choices should be:
A. Having to attend every practice and go on every road trip as the 13th or 14th forward
B. Allow the Flyers to trade you to any team that will take you, assuming anyone will, and we'll retain max salary to help get the deal done.
C. Agree to mutually walk away from the contract. You are then free to sign with anyone
D. Retire

I wouldn't be averse to bringing Reese back. Hextall might be, however.
I have a feeling we'll never really know what happened. |

I like your plan but a part of me wants too see if Vinny can play much better now that Berube is gone. No more excuses, a new coach and a fresh start....then if he is still playing like Sht we can install your plan or hope reality sinks in and he sails off into the sunset |

Hammond's career numbers are pretty pedestrian. I think he was a guy who basically rode a once in a lifetime hot streak. I doubt that Ottawa is counting on him to be their #1 goalie going into next season.
