Yeah I shouldn't tell you what to do and what not to do seeing I don't have a single clue regarding anything about your personal life I was just interjecting my personal fear of taking meds, but if they work for ya, all the power to ya brother.

didnt mean to flag these new icons ....thanks man i appreciate it...if youve never gone through it its a hard thing to understand...depression, anxiety, and ocd can take over your life. what most people dont seem to understand is that the symptoms are very real to those who suffer. Brave man carcillo is.

Same, but I smoke like a chimney, drink like a fish, and have seven dogs.

Oh, and I play the lottery like it's going out of style.

So it balances out

I used to suffer from both them when I was using a lot of hard drugs, the best thing I found was to get off the Prozac and the Xanax and all that bullpoop. Meditation works 10000x better than any pill. Just go in a mildly lit room for about 20 minutes, make yourself comfortable, and just focus on clearing your mind and thinking about nothing whatsoever. It works miracles. I swear by it.

When it comes to basketball, I'd rather watch paint dry. Watching abnormally tall men in their underwear try to place a large ball through a hoop is not my idea of entertainment.

I find the lack of empathy in today's comments (by some) a little sad. I truly get self dependance and responsibility, but to have the mentality of "you've been paid millions, suck it up" is just confusing. These are people who have been playing structured hockey since they were tiny kids. That life for the most part is all they know. The transition from that from hockey to a life without, I imagine, is one that can leave a void. Some people will navigate those waters better than others.

Yes these players have been well compensated for playing a game, but it doesn't make them less human. In a business that generates $3 billion/year, perhaps having a few councilors help in that transition isn't asking too much (most likely in the NHLPA, so yes the players are paying it themselves).

- mmcclatchy

You actually believe there isn't councilors available to them? I am sure they have many names and phone numbers given to them from shrinks, to financial planners to other experts to sit with you on what to do after hockey etc etc. Players also talk to other players and get advice on who they use and recommendations etc. On top of that there is your parents and your agent who also give you advice. It's like an actress who gets paid a ton of money for a movie and believing she will always be paid that kind of money regardless of her getting older. If you don't plan for the future you won't have one.

It's not that I don't have empathy, I do, but it seems like the player is getting very little part of the blame here when I think he should be getting most of it. Recources are available to them.

Been a long time since I posted, but the topic regarding retired players along with subsequent comments compelled me to reply.

First, I'll state that my opinion is the NHL or any pro league shouldn't be liable for retired players mental well being or any injuries (concussions) they suffered while playing that have lingering effects. While they're in the leauge teams will help players with these issues, but just like every other job in this country once you're no longer an employee the company shouldn't be responsible for you.

Second, my previous paragraph doesn't mean I don't feel for the players with these issues. Depression and/or lingering injuries is a terrible thing to deal with. That's why I would support something along the lines of retired players teaming together to help out each other. If the NHL chose to donate to such a cause that would be great, but they shouldn't be compelled to do so like some are suggesting.

Third, I agree money doesn't buy happiness, but if you agree with that how could you in the same vain think the NHL spending millions to help retired players would correct their issues?

To wrap up, and I hope this isn't viewed as political, I think people should stop looking towards big entities (corporations, governments, religious organizations) to use their money to help with every little problem in life. I'm not saying anyone should go it alone, but look to family and friends for help before demanding it from elsewhere.

Here's a juicy excerpt from Dei Lynam's article today on the analysis of Joel Embiid's 2014-15 season ......

Signature game of 2014-15
On March 6 the Jazz came to town and beat the Sixers, 89-83. Embiid had the highlight of the night, only it took place during pregame warmups. Embiid put a ball between his legs as he went up for a one-handed jam. The highlight went viral on Twitter.

I still think their the closest to a championship in the city, doesn't mean I can't take pot shots at them.

Glad to know he's too injured to play but has no problem doing fancy slam dunks and dancing.

Adding Embiid and whoever they draft this year might make them watchable next year.

Unless you can deal Vinny with full salary, keep him. I still believe he is capable of contributing. If not he keeps going through the scratch/4th line mess until he retires. A lot of reports indicate he is considering retirement to go play elsewhere in leagues where he'd get to play. Umberger I am hoping was awful due to injury. My fingers are crossed.

If you can deal him for 1/2 salary retained and replace his spot with someone for less than the salary you gave away, you come out ahead. Being as most 4th liners come for around $1.2M or less, you can probably do this (depending on what the return is).
