Peter Tessier: Jets Post Mortem: Part 1 Assessment Winnipeg Jets have to make an assessment of who their season ended- was it the playoffs version or regular season version...or a bit of both?

First?

I thought the Jets looked very good this year. Much better than any previous year by a long shot. More organized, big, strong, and tough to play against.

IMO, Anaheim is just that much better of a team. They were more organized, bigger, stronger and tougher to play against.

Just shows how hard it is to win a cup but Jets fans should be proud their team has improved so much and made the playoffs. No small feat in itself anymore.

I'm proud of this team. They battled all year. When Hutch played well, he started. When Pav played well, he started. I won't walk around the issue, I don't think that Pavelec is a starting NHL goaltender. He is a solid backup goaltender who can and will steal some games for you every now and again. he certainly is not worth 3.9 per year. The jets have a solid back end and need a few of their youngsters to step up next year but they do need to keep the big bodied front and back end in the back of their mind. Petan is going to be a great player, but he doesn't have size.
Would Chevy consider trying to move Pavelec out for next to nothing (due to contract value) and bring in or trade for an nhl starter? Craig Anderson might be available!

Where is playoff experience on your pretty chart? That seemed to me to be the difference in this series. The Jets look like a really good, but mostly inexperienced (or in Byfuglien's case just lack of hockey sense) team. Give them another year of playoff experience together and see what happens.

BTW, they play in the best conference in hockey. And they played a monster of a team. Jets fans should lose the caution and just be excited for the future.

The eight injuries going Into the playoffs concern me. The Jets are playing a style of game that is hard on the players bodies. That may be a reflection of lacking hockey smarts. The Jets need to get players who play smart.

Myers is a good example of a smart player. He uses his size well and is smart with the puck when he possesses it, which is a far contrast from Bogosian who always chased the big hit! Bogosian was also injured lots because of this. I say this team needs players with better hockey IQ's. You could have all the skill, size, and speed in the world (uh hmmm... Evander Kane), but if you do not know how to use it it's useless.

The players who were hurt all have hockey smarts but had tough luck.

Luck is having one of your players injured. Bad luck is having 2-3 players injured. Lack of hockey smarts causes half your roster to be injured.

Name me another team that got knocked out of the first round that required so many players to have surgery.

Just sayin...
