Depending on who takes over in Boston, if Loui Eriksson can be had for the right price, I wouldn't mind that deal. Sending Merrill (and Detroit's 3rd next year lol) their way for him would be reasonable.

The reason to trade for Kessel is that his contract and the negativity surrounding him makes his value relatively low. I don't know that I'd offer the 1st for him, simply because that's a hard contract to swallow and you're giving up a potential star for someone who is probably on the downslope of their career. Kessel isn't going to be much of an asset if he's not producing and his best year's production-wise, are behind him. If you can rob Toronto for him, go for it, but I'd prefer to look at St. Louis and see if Oshie is available, because while he's not the star Kessel is, his contract is easier to swallow and he can actually help a team in the defensive zone. Boychuk went for two 2nd rounders and a 3rd, I think we could get Oshie for that price.

Is Eriksson completely over the concussion issues, Clowe is likely done, I'd hate to see the devils waste time, money, and assets for another guy with concussions in his past.

Reasoning: Car only has to eat 1 more yr of their salaries, @ $8 mil (but $1 mil more than Sem@ $7 per x 3). They get back a fan fav in Ruu, a good locker guy (Zub) who can help youth. Both coem off after next yr

We get a reclamation project in Semin. Came off of wrist surgery last season and never put it all together. If it fails its just the money tied up until we can compete again, hes no worse than the guys we shipped to Car. If it works maybe Zajac career comes back a little. And I would ask for a Ctr prospect fol picking up addl yrs on Semin. Maybe Walmark (Swe) or Patrick Brown who went to BC.

Its not ideal but move some stuff. Louie E meh, Don't want Kessel Etc. Flame away!

Interesting idea. I'm all for it as it ships out Zubs. Ruutu is a good player, but not sure Car wants him back. Nor do I think Lou parts with him, as he only acquired him last year and Lou liked him. However, if that trade did happen, I'd be happy.

I like the reasoning behind why you suggested it, I just don't see either team eager to pull the trigger on that deal.

Also, pass on Kessel. In fact, always pass on Kessel, unless his price comes way down. He's a skilled player, but I don't see his worth exceeding the 1st round pick's potential. I doubt Tor would willingly trade him without a 1st, or equivalent prospect, coming back.

NJ doesn't necessarily have to be ultra competitive next year... I'd rather the team transition properly. I like Ericsson because he is a second line winger who's likely pretty affordable. The closer we get to the draft, the more I don't want NJ to trade the pick... (don't mind maneuvering the pick, but not getting rid of it for Kessel)

Oh, and HELL NO to Semin. Absolutely not... even if we're getting rid of dead weight, he is deader weight. Havlat and Ryder are better than he is.
