So Marti is a Swiss defenseman who went home to play a couple of years ago. 22 years old. He put up 8 points through 32 games this years in the Swiss league, and 12 points through 50 games the year before. So there's something to be said for increasing his point pace pretty drastically despite an injury. I don't know that many NHL players who were playing Swiss league at that age to compare to.
Streit had 25 points through 44 games in the Swiss league at age 21.
Roman Josi had 17 points in 26 games there at age 22.
Damien Brunner had 7 points through 50 games there at age 21.
At age 23 Yannick Weber had 21 points through 32 games played there.
Raphael Diaz had 14 points through 50 games there at age 22.
So take from that what you will.

An injury prone European. He will fit in perfectly.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: RT @markhmasters: Mike Babcock says key factors in his decision:
1. What his wife thinks
2. Winning - nastyflyergirl
Assuming his wife likes it in DET, and add to that his comments about there being "no better job" than his current one, and no interest in dual GM/coach role, it seems like he's probably gonna stay put. |

Damien Cox (Sportsnet) believes Philly is the best fit for Babcock. Personnally, I think it's 50/50 he leaves DET.

Thoughts? - BOSS_TWEED
He's not the only to say that philly seems like one of the better options for him. I just hope that all that speculation is true.
I also think it's 50/50 he leaves Detroit. His post game comments after they lost made it seem as if he was a little frustrated with the organization and their lack of center depth in the system. And that is one thing we have... a lot of young centers. |

I get what you're saying, and I'm not saying that the Flyers won't be trying to compete, but what I'm saying is that the 7th pick in this year's draft will be a good NHL player (on a cheaper contract) once the defensive prospects that are in the system are ready to contribute. At that point, the Flyers should be in really good shape. This year the team under-performed by a decent margin and could've been a hell of a lot more competitive than they showed. Contenders, no. Competitive... could've been...
Buff might help in the short term, but in the long run it just doesn't make sense. Now, if you said Shattenkirk, I'd do that deal in a minute. - Coleman
Shattenkirk doesn't have the same physical presence as buff though. No doubt the 7 will probably be a good nhler but time your rookies develop into good or great NHL players how old are your stars like giroux and voracek be? It would be almost like starting over again.
Philly I see close to edmonton, great forwards but seriously lacking in D |

We've exhausted that topic thousands of times. G will most likely be in his early 30's, jake in his late 20's. These are nhl elite players we're talking about here.... I've went and researched plenty of players that are producing very well, well into their early, mid, and late 30's. moot point about g and jakes age.

Kinda sounds like buff(minus the untapped offensive talent portion)
I like the sounds of him. As long as he can work on his positioning and knowing when appropriate to throw a big hit, he sounds like he has the tools to possibly develop into a decent player someday - benjichronic
Not an offensive defenseman but has a bit of puck-moving ability. Hockey sense is questionable -- even in the Q, that question was raised -- but really good physical tools and is young.

Okay so he is more of a defensive dman?
The hockey prospect description ealier posted made it seem like he's got quite a bit of offensive potential... Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks Bill. The thing I really like about Sanheim is that he doesn't seem to panic with the puck; how many times have we seen our D-men panic, and turn the puck over.
I would hope that the Flyers would learn from the Wed Wings, when it comes to drafting. It's not always worrying about getting the highest pick, it's what kind of player that you pick. In addition, pick for your needs, and not just what comes along the draft line.
Finally, patience. Develop your players, and you won't have to worry about the cap as much. Plus, you know what you are getting with that player. |

That's what I am hoping for.
As usual it seems it is BS media drumming up rumors about the possibility of him leaving.
All about luring in those readers. |
