Any see this;

Matt Larkin of The Hockey News: The Canadiens should target Maple Leafs winger Phil Kessel.

The Canadiens need more goal scorers to complement Max Pacioretty.

Return for Kessel? Using the Rick Nash trade as a comparable as he was of similar age had a similar contract (Kessel 6-years at $8 million and Nash have six at $7.8 million). If it were me, would start by asking for Jacob De La Rose, Zach Fucale and a 2015 1st round pick. The Leafs may start off higher and ask for Galchenyuk and a 1st. These returns may not fit cap wise for the Canadiens, but it may be easier to do if the Leafs took back P.A. Parenteau and his $4 million cap hit.

Kessel is >>> Nash when Nash was up for trade.

Look where each was in the NHL scoring sheet each year for the 5 years leading up to the trade.

and no, Nash is not a huge physical or defensive force.

I wouldn't even listen to the first offer and Galchenyuk is a center who apparently (according to the Habs thread) doesn't want to play center.

pass.

Has he said so?

I was under the impression that he hasn't been given the opportunity to go up the middle.

He's a 6'02 21 year old who put up 46 points this year, including 20 goals.

only his 3rd season... next year is his supposed break out season.

I'd take him before his value goes up big time.

He's been given very little opportunity but it seems he did have a conversation with Therrien about staying at wing this year to improve his overall play before taking on the defensive responsabilities given to a center in the NHL.

I'm guessing he'll start the year at center next year... it's time he takes Desharnais or Plekanec's place.

seems different than other scouting reports, where his skating is a drawback and his two-way game is listed as a strength.

Galchenyuk is the least of my worries and giving him up would be Mdonaghesque mistake by the Habs.

Yeah, he's not going anywhere. He should leave Genie alone though, she needs to concentrate on her game big time.

I personally wouldn't give up Galchenyuk for Kessel.

Wouldn't give out 2 firsts either....

I'd think about the De la Rose, Fucale and a first... even if I do like De la Rose quite alot.... he's solid for a 19 year old.

Kessel's offensive contribution would definetely be a big help but Therrien actually loves players who are not a complete liability in their own zone....

That isn't shocking. Younger, cheaper, untapped potential, possible franchise Centerman....obviously not as good today but that trade could haunt the Habs in as little as 2 yrs.

Marc Bergevin isn't a desperate man. Even if they don't win the cup during his tenure, I don't think he'd want to be the GM that didn't win the cup AND mortgaged the future.

So far, he's managed to make trades at the deadline without touching the Habs best assets.

Petry for a 2nd and a 5th was a goddamn steal considering his impact, even more so if we manage to keep him.

What about Yakupov? 20 points in his last 28 games.

Will he keep up that pace next year or go back to being invisible?

I'd take a chance on him for sure if he's available.

Morning Leafers!
It will be interesting to see where Kessel and Phaneuf end up, and the return they bring. Any new rumours I don't know about these 2?

Dude.

This is the Leafs thread.

There has been nothing new about the Leafs, or in this thread, for the past 48 years.

Except for the time Roger Nielsen came out to coach with a paper bag on his head.

One of the all time best hockey characters.

Sad to see him, and Pat Burns, go.
