Kessel is >>> Nash when Nash was up for trade.
Look where each was in the NHL scoring sheet each year for the 5 years leading up to the trade.
and no, Nash is not a huge physical or defensive force.
I wouldn't even listen to the first offer and Galchenyuk is a center who apparently (according to the Habs thread) doesn't want to play center.
pass. - Aetherial
or we let phil rack up 40 pts in 45ish games, and get a bounty. leafs probably would take back a bad contract, bu if de la rose is the centrepiece, bergevin gets laughed at. |

JVR would be my target as well. Youngers, cheaper, fits what the Habs needs perfectly.
Doubt it will happen. |

who would want any of those guys.
personally i'd rather not see anyone moved to the habs for picks/prospects

Habs need some goal scorers for sure. I don't think it would ever happen that they can get Phil. They couldn't even come close. The 1st that would be included will be in the 20's for the next 4 drafts probable. |

It would take subtracting a significant piece of their core for sure. |

Galchenyuck and a 1st isn't even close.
Would you take a slight better version of Kadri and a 1st for Kessel. Hell no. |

they would have to pay more than a western team would, and de la rose + a late 20's aint even gonna be close.
if they didnt wanna include glachenyuk, it would have to be Gallagher + + |

Galchenyuk is the least of my worries and giving him up would be Mdonaghesque mistake by the Habs. - Scabeh
OK that's fine, but you aren't going to get a significant scoring upgrade by dealing Eller, Plek, DD, Markov, Emelin etc.

IMO Habs need a center, I'd target O'Reilly if I were them...DD, Pleks and Eller are not exactly powerhouses up the middle.

He isn't yet a slightly better version of Kadri.
He MIGHT be, one day.
Every team wants to give up their spare parts for a serious upgrade somewhere. Trade proposals are equally ridiculous among every fan base.

agreed. any fan of any team that wouldn't want a goal scorer like Kessel is just ignorant. Too bad we couldn't give Kessel a real #1C here in Toronto. Things would've been so much different, and imo, better. |

Marc Bergevin isn't a desperate man. Even if they don't win the cup during his tenure, I don't think he'd want to be the GM that didn't win the cup AND mortgaged the future. - TheMussel
The thing about Kessel is that it doesn't matter how good he is ( Kessel >Nash therefore his return should be better)...there's only a select few teams that can afford him and the price in trade, and fewer yet that actually need to add a high end supplementary winger.
Arizona, Boston, , Calgary, Columbus, Calgary, Florida, Dallas, Habs, Nashville, islanders, Devils, Penguins, jets all need a quality game breaking scorer.....now take away the teams that can't afford the salary, have no cap space or are unwilling to part with young assets and picks....who's left?

That's another thing this fanbase is (frank)ing atrocious for: predicting players' ceilings
Nobody knows. Sure, there's educated guesses and whatnot, but anybody who claims a projection as fact is talking out their ass.
The one that I keep coming back to is Gauthier. He can only ever be a 4th line center because, well, because!

in leafs nation the ceilings all seem so high because the whole franchise is a sunken livingroom
