Hakstol will develop the poop out of him once he's on the big club
- funmaster18

They should get a Hakstol-type coach for the Phantoms, too, since that's where Morin will likely be most if not all of next season.

@IgorEronko

Nikita Zaitsev, one of the most promising Russian defenders, told R-Sport he's going to stay in the #KHL for 1 more year #NHL

So the Zaitsev door is apparently closed for a year.

- Jsaquella

Him having to buy his contract out was probably the sticking point. Hopefully we'll be able to get him next year when he'll still only be 24.

i hope this craig flag thing doesn't become a big war between him and the lindbergh estate. really hate to see the legacy of that moment tarnished by money.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe terry murray had run his course. Fresh blood throughout

Murray will probably be an assistant coach with the Flyers. Get someone younger and hungrier to ride the buses with the kids.

Flyers couldn't cover the buyout cost for $200 or so with the apparent way the Russian economy is floundering?

Then hold onto him and wait until next year and reevaluate. No need to throw away assets. No fuss to move Gus.

I'm not an expert but I think the player has to pay most of it, and the Flyers were only gong to be able to give him an ELC contract due to his age.

Yes, every thing that they can hold onto is an asset. In case you didn't notice they are a very long way away from winning a cup. period. full stop. They need everything they can get.

He has shown he can play top minutes in international tournaments and play well in the KHL and is young. You never know, he could turn out to be a good player after all. There is no reason to give him away for nothing. His value is low as dirt right now so hold onto him and hope he develops further. But by no means give him away or get just a 7th rounder for him. If I ran a company that was that careless with its assets I'd fire the culprit on the spot.

It would be nice if he really wanted to play on the Flyers, but knew that there was already a log-jam of defenders in the organization. Maybe he thought that waiting another year would give him a better chance of having a more defined role on the team.

One can always hope, right?

Yup, I guess it comes down to what his contract is worth. I'd figure even with paying off the money he'd owe he'd still be making some decent bank with the current value of the ruble, but maybe not. Right now, the dollar is worth 50 rubles, so a $900,000 ELC is worth approximately 45 million rubles.

All of this is assuming he really wants to play in the NHL.

the value of the ruble doesn't matter if you're buying things from inside the country... now if you go out you're (frank)ed

That's the point...the Flyers won't be paying him in rubles so unless his contract is ridiculously expensive (valuable), he should make money on the deal even after paying what he owes.

But all of this is pure speculation.

The UFA Market is really strong this year. I wouldn't call any of these guys stars but a lot of serviceable players are heading into the open market.

It is interesting when you see less of a younger player, the perception is that sure he will get better. However, the perception of Coots and B. Schenn who have played a lot and are even younger, suck and certainly can't improve.

Gus = Danny Syvret

Our draft picks are terrible. I Saw them yesterday. The future is dark indeed. Turn off the lights on your way out.
