Problem is we need to Draft D-Men now and Centre later. With 3 years of sedins we have time to train a future #1 Centre, we have no#1 dman now, so unless we get more draft picks, we better be drafting d

You have seven picks, in theory, every draft. They need to draft both centers and dmen in the next three years with their top three picks.

Unless we get to draft haffinen, provorov or werenzski I'd rather take a forward.

But in Theory rounds 4-7 will likely never see NHL play, and if they do it is as depth players not stars. Jamie Benn is not available in every draft for one lucky team.

Either way you cut it JB needs to recoup picks in this years draft, he would be a hero if he could snag a late first rounder.

That's why I said the first three picks (rnds 1-2-3) are essential to "hit" on. The organization needs both a high-end center and a high-end defenseman.

He's said that's his goal, to recover a pick, hopefully he's successful.

Something's up with Vrbata, no ones talking, probably not happy. Move him Now!
- VanHockeyGuy

What are they saying in the lower mainland about Vrbata? Why is he not happy?

WD wouldn't elaborate at the post mortem, second line duty perhaps. He could net a good pick.

Given the time it takes to properly develop and young player, especially a defenseman, I'd agree.

It would suck to lose Vrbata's reg. season production, but after watching him flounder around in the playoffs I would be totally ok moving him for the pick.

Benning has an opportunity to make a splash at the draft, make some timely deals, maybe trade up or ???. His activity in the next few weeks will dictate season ticket sales throughout the summer. He has to be aware of that.

Benning suggests Sven can possibly fill a top 6 role next season. He has value, we need picks/prospects.

Probably best we are not hearing ANYTHING.

Once stuff gets out... You are dealing from a position of weakness.

Can't wait for the draft to see what they have in store.... If much at at.

I just went back and watched some of the post season media availability, the Vrbata segment, and he seemed okay. Didn't throw anyone under the bus. Just sort of said the team on the whole has to get better and every other team is looking to improve too.

Vrbata didn't have a great playoffs but who really did? I am not against trading him to get a good pick or prospect, but can't really understand why anyone would think he is sh!tty team mate or whatever.

Could all be behind the doors stuff, I heard there was an issue between him and the twins saying something along the lines of "you could try passing to other people, not just between yourselves."

Thought there was some talk about going for an empty netter at some point in the season too. Whether Vrbata was being selfish or something.

Vrbata isn't wrong about the passing... they often look to pass to each other and hesitate to pass it to others that are open and hold on to wait for the other Sedin to get open.

I am a fan, they play so well together but the more they use their line mates, the better the line can be, they will have more space to make plays. Vrbata wants to score, might be a bit selfish, but you don't see him passing the puck away when he has a wide open net either.

edit: it was a good bounce back season for the Sedins, and having Vrbata on the 2nd line may have made teams recognize the 2nd line as a possible threat, and helped the first line.
