You tube is a good source if you find the right videos from the pros on design and techniques but the plumbing and wring was so extensive, I had to call in the pros. |

last thing you need is an electrical fire that your insurance will not cover. |

There's a reason why interest rates are so low. If they go up by a few %, you'll see people doing everything to sell because they can't afford it anymore. That's when prices will go down. - Pecafan Fan
Well, aren't they keeping the interest rates low to keep that from happening?
Our plan is to buy something up north after the wedding, probably in bracebridge... prices are so low already, you can buy what would be a million dollar house in Toronto easily for less than the price of a 1 bedroom condo... our monthly payments including taxes would be lower than what we pay for rent right now
Figure the prices up there won't drop as much as in the city because they're already so low. |

Funny you should say, we are going out this weekend to buy new smoke detectors for the house to replace the old ones. |

Banks won't keep those rates down forever, though. |

Family cottage/house property in Parry Sound went way up over the last few years, it is now listed at $620,000. Getting really expensive up there. |

nice.
I married a city gal who doesn't want to move past Dupont street in Toronto or live in the east end of the city. And no burbs and she likes a short walk to get her red eye coffee. |

If you're in the right spot just off the Danforth, then it's an awesome area |

I got one that cost $140. If you have a couple of these, they will communicate with each other as well.

I'm against the burbs too, after growing up there
For me it's either downtown or in the country, one of the two extremes.
Nice thing about bracebridge is you can buy a nice house for 300 right near the "downtown" strip, which is pretty built up on account of being a tourist town.
So you walk 5 minutes one way to get your coffee, drive 10 minutes the other way to get to pristine nature.
edit: since you mentioned dupont... ever been to Universal Grill? |

Yea, a friend of ours rents a place there.
Too expensive to buy right now, for us anyways
I'd love to live there. |

Friends of ours lived just near Coxwell ave, a few blocks off the Danforth... they bought there in 2008 for about 400k and sold it last year for about 650k
Nice location, but not the biggest house... ours in Edmonton is bigger and has significantly more yard space and we paid 270k for it in 2009, now worth about 320k.
Their neighbour was Sean Fitz-Gerald though (sports journo with the National post) so beer on the deck always lead to good conversation |

So here's the question that we still need to figure out: what's the job market like? |

You can't buy a house in Toronto for under 500 any more.
Even the ones listed at 4-something will see a bidding war that brings them up to 5.
Only options for a first-time buyer are tiny condos or houses out in places like Ajax/Oakville/Bramptagesh.
...or of course just paying away all your earnings in rent. |

Everything was replaced, total rewiring of whole house, total replacement of all plumping plus broke up the concrete to replace under the house, new lines added.
Completely gutted. That $85,000 is before the kitchen upstairs will be done (later this year). - LeafMan
