My parents had the exact same thing happen a few years back.
I honestly wished I'd learned a trade instead of getting into business. (frank)ing useless diploma/degree - Schenn-Sational!
damn straight.
My son struggles in school, so I don't see university in his future... It doesn't matter anyway, I was going to point him to a trade. Hell, I know a guy who lays ceramic tile and makes a freaking killing. No education, no nothing. He did it as a summer job a couple years for his uncle, now he just gets brought in by GC's.

There's a reason why interest rates are so low. If they go up by a few %, you'll see people doing everything to sell because they can't afford it anymore. That's when prices will go down. - Pecafan Fan
This is true, just like the U.S.
I cant for the life of me understand how someone gets into a house and cuts it so thin that they can't withstand an interest rate hike of even a few percent.

Nah, it is the same thing every year, hype, they will probably get one and then the 24th pick, they won't be moving up or adding another high pick. I can't see a team paying out that Kessel bonus and he is the one that can get a high pick. - LeafMan
Exactly.
Also, Carolina isn't giving up that 5th for a package including Kessel or Phaneuf. They will want Rielly AND the 24th overall, AND we take back Semin.
Let's face it, the pick may be available, like picks are every year, but literally available and realistically available are two very different things, especially this year.
They will float it out there and see if a team will do something stupid, but ultimately GM's are too afraid to make mistakes these days and none of these ideas about us getting another first in the Carolina(5) to Florida(11?) range is going to happen.

Partly bad planning but also a big element of self-entitlement. I deserve that house whether I can pay for it or not. |

It's not like it is difficult.
Look at your spending the past year or so. Put is in Excel as well as your income.
If you have just a couple hundred dollars left at the end of the month, then you are over-extended.

I don't see the big deal. Cash strapped owners pressure GMs to do stupid things.
Hell Wayne Gretzky was sold in his prime for $4mil. I know its a different day and age, but to think you can buy a player like Marnafin for $21mil isn't insane. Especially if a player and 24th is included. |

But Kessel is the big salary number being traded, why would cash strapped teams pay it out (bonus)? |

I literally just made this point elsewhere. But I think Gretzky was sold for something closer to 18M in today's money.
Still.
If 18 gets you Gretzky, 21 for the 5th isn't exactly something you balk at if you're Carolina
