The deal presumably would be contingent on Dylan Strome being selected by the Arizona Coyotes
Michael, why is the 'deal' contingent on that? Ne pas comprendre ... |

I think it's hilarious how people ruin Kessels value. He's definetly not a 2 way player...I am kind of worried.. He wasn't doing bad at all until Horchek took over. Then he was just as bad as every other player on the team.. They had a total change of formation and had to go by a different coaches ways. Half way threw a season that is not good for a team to do. Carlyle had a offensive system in place and when they changed to a defensive system it's like they couldn't score.... Really! I wonder why.??
Kessel will bounce back and have a totally productive year! Everyone will still say he's a one way player.. But, then we can say that he's top 5 in the league again.
GM's aren't stupid... They know this |

Nah. I highly doubt that.
Canes probably higher on Hanifin/Marner. |

I'd roll the dice a little on Dion.
Being the #2 guy paired with Faulk probably wouldn't be bad for his career.
Not for the 5th overall pick, though. |

Ignoring that this is a wild rumour for a second .....it would have to mean that the Canes don't want one of Marner or Hanifin. It has to mean that if Strome is taken at 3, that the Leafs have told the Canes that they are taking "insert player name" at 4 and that the Canes are more interested in the Leaf trade offer then they are in whomever is left at 5. |

nah.. too damn risky.. no guarantees either of them become top line Cs
do that and you might end up with 3 kadri's |

I don't see that as a terrible thing... Being able to roll 3 40-50 point centers? That's good depth. |

I think it's more that the Leafs would be more willing to part with the pieces it would take in order to grab both Marner and Hanifin rather than the other way around. |

yeah.. but the thing is.. a 40-50 point C on the top line is what we have now in slozak
its right where you want it to be for the 2C
and the checking wigers on the 3rd line wouldnt compliment the C that well and that player would under achieve.
better to take a chance on one, and get a potential stud D-man to play with Rielly

Makes no sense otherwise. Unless it's JVR AND Kadri or something absurd.
Either way, the Canes have a hole in their top six right now. Taking out Skinner AND Semin (or even just one) while adding an equivalent number of forwards doesn't help that much. |

yeah, agreed.
and the canes would love to move out some high priced under achieving contracts that can be replaced with someone like Kessel who does produce for that coin.
basically this is one big contract for another, only the one heading to carolina is worth it, and to get out from under a seriously over priced player like Semin the canes cough up their pick as payment. |

Ah ...could be that. I'm just assuming the Leafs in their current state would be happy with any 2 of those 3. I still want to believe that Strome is all that he's hyped to be. Maybe not though .... |

I think you're looking at this the wrong way.
You have a 30 point guy playing #1 C that's getting 40ish points because of his wingers.
If your 3rd line wingers are cutting the production of a center, you need some better (frank)ing wingers. |

depends on how the line is used by babcock
if he takes the approach he did with team canada is going to be stifling defensive hockey that waits for the other team to make a mistake to get its chances |

But the Canes don't NEED to get rid of Semin. They aren't near the cap. Ward's salary comes off the books at the end of the year. Staal gets a pay cut at the end of the year. It makes no sense to sacrifice something of value to get rid of something that isn't really a detriment. |
