Perfect, but the Kane part. I'm just not a big fan of putting a really skilled player on PK1. Rather have those minutes played 5-5 or on the PP. I'm not saying never on the PK, just more spotty than PK1. - Homer
I could be wrong, but doesn't Toews play PK1 in Chicago? It happens a lot believe it or not. Your best players are more often than not your best option in any situation. |

If you get Veizna quailty goaltending you can
2013-14 Leafs with Bernier
2013-14 Avs with Varly
2014-15 Flames with Hiller
Teams can do greater than projected results if you have goalies preforming and maintinng 0.2% increase in their career averages - DDM-Coga
Hiller got a LOT of help from Ramo though. Hiller only played in 54 games. |

Some of the best players in the league are the best players cause they can take on the pk 1 job. |

Hiller did come back down to earth near the end, but for a majority of the season he was cruising at the .020% increase in career numbers, they had the perfect storm in both those goalies playing hot |

It seemed like when one would start to struggle, they could plug in the other for a while until he started to have issues. It worked pretty well for them. In general, I don't think the idea of having 2 goalies that could/should be starters works out that well though. Goalies need the repetition of being in games. The speed of the game isn't duplicated anywhere else so if the timing isn't there, it can be quite a mess. |

I think that bc Grigorenko was so mismanaged & thus had only moderate success, his trade value just isn't there.
It'll be interesting to see what Murray & Bylsma decide to do with him
As of now,
I see him centering our 3rd line, with Foligno & either Gionta or Hodgson on the wing
Grigorenko doesn't seem to be the Murray "style" of player though, so I do see him eventually traded.
Same with Hodgson
I don't think he'll get bought out. His cap hit is actually needed right now. And Murray said a couple times that his stats dropped off bc of how Nolan misused him.
A decent bounce back year of 20ish goals, and he'll be able to be traded next offseason, or possibly at the deadline this year
I think to get rid of either player now would be a waste of future assets, bc we'd have to dump them for little return
That doesn't seem to be Murray's mo
But I guess we'll see |

I would support a paille-deslauriers-condra 4th line. Soderberg for the 3C would work. - mhp
If Grigorenko is still here, I'm guessing the 4th line will be something like...
Deslauriers-Larsson-(someone we sign)
With McCormick as the extra
And Schaller as 1st call-up
And I'm not sure we go after a center
Sure, we really only have 2 right now if Reinhart is in Rochester to start, but where do we put a Soderberg, Richards, etc for the rest of the deal we sign them to?
Our future top 3 centers are
Eichel
Reinhart
Girgensons
That's just about the only we can be sure of right now for the Sabres moving forward |

A 3rd line of Rhinehart/grigorenko/X could surprise against other 3rd lines. A sniper and a set up man....

Why sign someone for the 4th line. Just use McCormick or Schaller.

They're both more set up guys than snipers, but both do have some goal scoring ability for sure
Maybe with Moulson as a finisher, or Foligno banging away creating space, those 2 could be an interestingly productive 3rd line
Kinda sounds like Reinhart will start in Rochester though |

That could happen as well
But I think they might wanna bring in another Vet
And we do need to get to the cap floor
Paying say Paille 2.5mil instead of Schaller at under 1mil accomplishes that
And brings another Cup winner into the locker room
Bylsma talked A LOT about "culture"
So it makes sense to bring in a Paille type guy |

Paille should retire. He had too many concussions. Just play McCormick. He's a perfect 4th liner and overpay a dman or something to reach the floor.

Regardless, i like the fact that we have guys challenging for spots. I also like centers that are willing to play wing. If the center gets thrown out of the dot, the winger would hopefully be semi compitent at faceoffs, which could improve puck posession. I have no idea why coaches dont make ,"faceoff practice" mandatory for all centers and some wingers |

Doesn't have to be Paille,
Just used him as an example bc he was previously brought up
I think they wanna bring in a Cup winning vet to play on the 4th line & be a voice in the locker room
Makes sense to me anyways
As far as defensemen go...
Georges-Bogosian
Zadorov-Ristolainen
Weber-Pysyk
Ruhwedel
Signing a guy can move those guys on the left side all down a spot & that could certainly help make us better...
But idk if they do that for sure |

Agree with all of that
Grigorenko & Hodgson fighting for their future
Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Carrier, Compher & others fighting for roles that will eventually be vacated by Gionta & Moulson
Larsson trying to move up into the top9, and Foligno trying to stay there
Say what u will about Darcy's failures, but he left the cupboard stocked for Murray
It's gonna be exciting to see how it all comes together |

I thought about putting Larsson on the 4th line but he'll probably complain about his minutes. Not the best fit. He would seem more suited as a winger on the 3rd line.
For next season, at least at the start of the year I see our top 3 centers as Eichel, Girgs and a new guy (Soderberg). I just don't see Hodgson or Grigorenko here next year. And if you look to the future with Eichel and Reinhart as the top two, Grigorenko is the odd man out imo. |
