Quick is good I don't consider him elite - SabresFaninIndiana
I would say opinions vary on that, the King is elite and should be on his 20th round of golf by now. |

Quick and rask had great seasons but to say they are elite I think is wrong. They are good and possibly better than most but to say they are great I don't know. - SabresFaninIndiana
All the argumentative stuff aside,
All these guys u named were well paid goalies when they won the Cup, or were signed to big deals right after b their team valued them so much
5-6mil is the going rate for a good goalie now
Spending 2-3mil on a starter generally doesn't get u anywhere |

And I highly doubt other GM'S are lined up to hand us young stars
You either fill the roster out with vets or UFA'S
Or
You pay out the ass for "24 and under stars" - sbroads24
Isn't that why we acquired all these assets though?
We won't have room on the ice for most of them
I'm ok with overpaying,
As long as it's the RIGHT player |

It's because the former coach of this franchise coached him in the Olympics. |

I agree the degree of quality is variable but typically you need more than a 1 mil goalie. I will not argue that. I just don't know if we need to start with a 6 mil goalie... In fact I will say I don't want us to start with that |

Few of those guys got paid before winning a cup. Few won after getting paid. I'd be willing to venture that most of them were making 2-3 mill when they won the cup.

I don't think we have all these assets to simply under value them and just had them away.
Yes, the right player by all means go for it, but we also don't have to only get young star players, it's not how the world works. Evander Kane trade was a perfect storm. Chances of that happening with ANOTHER young star this offseason is very slim. Unless it's and offer sheet |

So who is this goalie that you'd acquire? Nobody disagrees that you want the "right" player. Seeing as few goalies are repeat winners it seems as though we are all speculating on the next guy. All the more reason not to wager too much on the bet. For all we know guys like Bernier, Talbot, Neuvirth could be good enough as it is all just speculation. |

Holtby would be a goalie I think would be worth a shot. Young... made 2m last season.
Just the problem of getting him. RFA and the caps have no other goalie. |

Could you really say that Holtby is worth 2 mill a year more than someone like Elliott or Anderson?

You're probably right. Those trades don't happen often, so I'm not expecting it.
Getting guys like sharp doesn't make sense to me though either.
Isn't trading assets for older players that won't be here when we're ready to compete handing those assets away as well? |

You don't need to pay 5-6 mill a yr for a starting goalie |

The Sabres aren't going to offer sheet anyone this summer, if they do I will begin to believe Murray is an idiot.
The Oilers are far more advanced than the Sabres are in top end talent. They have had enough top #1 picks so they can try for Dougie Hamilton and try to get the Dman they desperately need. The Sabres aren't there yet. |

I would rather take darling and some cap relieving player from Chicago for something. He is a goalie I would be interested in. |

Quick made 1.7 during his first win. Niemi barely made the team the year he won and was let go after the season. More proof that these guys can be found anywhere.

Thank you.
I would rather spend the money up front and make the goalie job easier. Thats pretty much what those teams did. |

Nope. And it will be a few seasons before we have shot at it. Therefore I am not worried about goaltending. Hell buffalo has never had a prolonged issue with it. Let it play out |
