Good.
Lindback and Johnson.
I'm ok with that

- cabin

I doubt they go that route I can't see Johnson staying

One has been there twice .One has once.

And there is a good chance that one or both will be replaced by younger and cheaper options next year. Hence the point.

Again, who are you acquiring this year that will cost you that much? That's the question.
- Slump Buster

I've answered your question a bunch of times
I said I want to acquire a young goalie that has the potential to be very good
The type of guy u eventually have to pay 6mil to

If goalies are really so interchangeable,
Why do teams keep paying them so much?

It's BC the ARE NOT as interchangeable as most are saying
This will again be proven when Holtby gets paid, and Crawford & other 6mil starters are still with their teams next year

I might be lumping u in with others,
But most keep saying tey don't want a goalie that takes up that much cap space

- jdfitz77

I am not interested in burning a lot of salary cap on a goalie - at least not at this stage. If it's a trade, Lack would be my #1 choice. While sending out #51 would be outstanding, I think he might cost #31.

In terms of UFA's, I would go back to Neuvirth for maybe 3 years. This would allow us to figure out what we have coming through the system plus potentially drafting one of the good ones this year.

Any of the old/damaged/costly goalies out there - Anderson, Lehner, Howard etc. Pass.

Shifting gears, I have noticed quite a few want to include Zadorov and/or Pysyk in the multitude of trade options that are being discussed. I personally want both of these guys on my blueline for the next 8-years. Would rather give up some of our prospect forwards/quality draft picks (not 2!) in order to upgrade our roster. However, my arm could be twisted to also give up Hodson and/or Grigorenko, but the return would have to be massive!

We'll have a good shot at #1 again if that happens
Mathews is pretty freaking good though

- jdfitz77

I don't think so. The team might be real bad before Xmas. Baring any injuries it is all about chemistry. By then they could have it figured out.

Hey .. I'm trying to have a positive outlook after the past seasons.
Don't try and ruin it ..

Please?

Gionta, Moulson, McCormick, Bogo... how many more do you need? You need a handful of vets and we have that. The vet thing is so overrated. Five years ago we were flush with all of these so-called character guys and we were terrible.
- Slump Buster

McCormick, a 4th liner who might play in 40 games? Bogo is what 25? So you have Moulson and Gionta, I would say having at least one more in your top 6, and at least one on your D would be nice.

You're wrong on Lindback. He played more than a "Handful" of games. He showed what he is capable when he is ready to play on a regular basis, he was STELLAR at times. He is basically FREE, he is HUGE, has comfort with the defense and if he stinks up the joint, put him on waivers. Low Risk - High Reward.....

How can Lindback start for another team when he can't until the season begins? You're suggestion that he just can't be any good becuase he played poorly on his previous teams doesn't gurantee he won't be a decent goaltender with great size for a couple of years.

- MEBSabresFAN

U can eat your words when Lindback is not signed to be a starter for someone next year then
He's 27
That's plenty of time to have established himself as a starter
He is a backup for a reason

A cup winning goalie seems to carry a very high price tag.

The point that "someone paid them a lot of money so it must be true" is a bad one. There are scores of foolish moves paid every offseason. And once again, almost all of these guys won when they were young and unproven. That's the point - go out and find that guy. Try lots of guys until you find one. They are everywhere.

I don't wanna trade those guys either
We don't have much defensive depth

Why? Having an old guy for the sake of having an old guy is pointless. We have that guy in Gionta. Look at the Hawks and Kings - were they flush with vets and high-character guys? No, they were young and fast and had great D. That's what wins.

Also, it doesn't matter if a guy play 40 games a year or if he is on the 4th line. As long as you have guys leading by example you'll be fine. We had a ton of these vets 5 years ago and the core still stunk. Get me good players.

There are many players that just over 30 that should be available that would be a great add to actually make the team better. Reading through the comments of why not to bring them here is humorous.

It's like playing the lottery. Other teams do it . WE have needed a top line center for years !! Now we need THE wingers. We can make a great goalie .with whats on the D will get better with a year or 2.

So was Hasek...
Almost every goalie was
Lindback has had lots of opportunity to show his stuff
If he becomes a good starter at this point it would be a surprise. He has sucked everywhere he's gone except for what, 15 games with us? Too small a sample size to make me believe his past failures were an aberration.

It's the cost of getting said player that is the question. I am not giving up valuable assets for a guy like Sharp. I like him just fine but he doesn't fit a need.

WE have a couple over 30 now. Could use another mid next season. Gives a youngin mare time with the team.

I also want us to start getting better
That doesn't happen with one of the guys we started last year IMO
We need better
So that's either trade for someone like Elliot, or a young guy like Gibson
I prefer to trade for a young guy,
But they might not be available
So they maybe we draft someone high (21 or 31),
And trade for Anderson, etc for a few years

Murray pretty much said exactly that on the radio last week

True on the sample size. Could be the systems they played for too. Seems a few goalies now a days have flourished by a change of the system. We had none since Ruff. New coach.. Having a system and a coach that will try and make it stick. We have that. Up to the players now. Can't wait till the season starts. Gonna enjoy the summer first.
