When are trades allow to start? When is the buyout period? July 1 is FA day. 25-26 is the draft. - manvanfan
Don't forget UFA negotiation begins a few days early too! |

No wonder they call us a goalie graveyard. Judging a goalie based on 4 shots. That's cold!
We should trade the one who will net us the highest return. That should be Lack. - KB3Point0
This, god damn it. |

Benning at the Town Hall Meetings says that there is a lack of defensive prospects. Definitely seems like he's looking to draft D-men. - LeftCoaster
We all know what the town hall meetings are about and that's selling ticket's. At least everyone is on the same page that the defence is a joke. That's a tough sell! |

Lack only has spent the last 2 seasons in the NHL. Markstrom is further along at his age than Lack was 2 years ago, more NHL experience and better AHL numbers. So to me the younger thing is a big deal. If he can be groomed with patience and lower expectations like Schneider and Lack before him, he could be much better in the long run. Not many goalies breakout at 25, so its unreasonable to expect him to be the savior at this point - WhiteLie
I don't agree that Markstrom is further along at all and Lack still has better AHL numbers (.923 to Markstrom's .920).
And more importantly Lack has significantly better numbers than Markstrom in the NHL. Lack has only played 30 more games in the NHL than Markstrom and has played at a much higher level.
I think people forget as well how dominant Lack was in the AHL playoffs as well posting .928 over 17 games and yet Markstrom is being made out to be the better of the two and has posted .919 over 31 games. Both are good numbers but Lack has been better at the professional level.
Lack is the better goalie period.
Markstrom might become the better goalie but nothing he has done so far has suggested to me that he is superior to Lack unless we go back to when they were both playing in sweden as teenagers. |

Chicago are worthy champions and what that core has done and continues to do is exemplary. Truth be told they are exactly the type of team I was daring to hope we'd become when we won the 2011 President's and starting marching through the playoffs. And I don't mind saying it as our rivalry with them, if it ever was one, feels like ancient history at this point. - AlexF
I think the Nucks are heading in the right direction , can Horvat become Toews like? I like his game. I respect the twins but the Canucks won't win anything until the changing of the guard happens, they need new leaders. |

Even if Horvat becomes Toews like, which I doubt although he looks like he will be a solid NHLer, the Canucks bigger issue has always been the lack of Kane/Hossa/Saad/Sharp/Byfuglien players. All of their offense goes through the Sedins and there has never been sufficient goal scoring support.

The Canucks problems have ALWAYS been a lack of a Keith type player. Over the years we have had similar type players to all the rest, but never a dominant, top 5-10 in the world, defenceman. |

Neither is our goalie of the future. Miller is the goalie of the present. Trade Lack who has the highest value now. Develop Markstrom to a point where he either is the goalie of the future (until Demko takes over) or to a point where we can trade him for real value as well.
It's Miller time whether we like it or not. |

I disagree they should keep the goalie who they feel will solidify the goalie position.
Neither goalie will bring back much and the return for Lack will be less than what he brings to the team. If anything Lack's value will grow as he continues to outplay Miller on a much cheaper contract.
Trade Markstrom for whatever and keep the goalie that has the best chance of being part of the team when some of the younger players are ready to play. |

I agree but it won't be forever, WD and Benning are not dumb even if they are stubborn. We obviously have different views on this as I see Lack as having the most potential of being the goalie of the future. Demko is a hope and a prayer while being 3-5 years away. Markstrom is a hope and prayer and Miller is only getting older and worse.
Lack is only one who has a decent track record in the NHL and is still young enough to be part of the future, it would be bad asset mgmt to move that player for a gamble. |

I agree not ever having a #1 D has hurt but the team as well but they still havn't had the goal scoring talent either

The only pick the Canucks have ever got a bit of luck with is Pavel Bure. Chicago had that same kind of luck with Duncan Keith.
The Canucks will have to find a gem somewhere in the second or third round, or maybe late first round, if they don't plan on finishing bottom of the league.
Franchise NEEDS a number one defenseman in the worst way!! |

Lack is UFA next year. Is he going to stick around as a backup in a year when he could go elsewhere to be the starter for more money? |

Only teams still in the playoffs were not allowed to trade. For the last couple of weeks 28 teams were allowed to trade. |

Easier said than done I'm afraid. Now we see what kind of talent evaluator JB really is. He gave the scouting staff guidance and is holding them accountable to stick with the plan. Don't hold your breath he said he is going with BPA. If that's the case he must have a back up plan to fix that cluster feck of a D. |

If Lack is still in Van at the start of this coming season he will be the starter by the end of the year...that you can take to the bank. It's how we roll in Van with Goalies!!
