If Lack is still in Van at the start of this coming season he will be the starter by the end of the year...that you can take to the bank. It's how we roll in Van with Goalies!!

- LordHumungous

If Lack is our starting goalie we're not making the playoffs.... which i'm okay with

I agree but it won't be forever, WD and Benning are not dumb even if they are stubborn. We obviously have different views on this as I see Lack as having the most potential of being the goalie of the future. Demko is a hope and a prayer while being 3-5 years away. Markstrom is a hope and prayer and Miller is only getting older and worse.

Lack is only one who has a decent track record in the NHL and is still young enough to be part of the future, it would be bad asset mgmt to move that player for a gamble.

I don't see Lack as being able to be anything better than average to good. Markstrom has a higher ceiling. I don't know whether he'll ever achieve it, but he has the tools.

Miller will be here for the next 2 years. Lack is gone in a year or sooner. Why let him walk for nothing in a year?

I agree not ever having a #1 D has hurt but the team as well but they still havn't had the goal scoring talent either
- belcherbd

Over the years we have had top end goal scoring talent. Bure, Naslund, and Sedin were all at times absolute top end goal scorers in the NHL. But we have NEVER had that top tier defenceman. That has been the difference between winning a cup and celebrating just making a final.

Benning also stated that if they can't get a contract extension for Lack by draft day he is the most likely goalie moved.

Lots of work to be done with moves dependent upon who is or isn't resigned. Bring it on.

Hope so!

Pretty sad when Ohlund is your franchise leader for defensemen and he never scored more than 36 points in a season….Jesus

You can get a good defenseman late in round one or anywhere in the second round.

Well... We need about four of them so......

I said they were there, not plentiful, but they are there. Just gotta be lucky enough to draft em.

Dennis Kearns (76/77) and Doug Lidster (86/87) are the only two defensemen in team history to score 60 or more points in a season…each did it once.

Jyrki Lumme is probably the closest we've ever had to a number one point producing defenseman. Two 50+ point seasons and two 40+ point seasons as a Canucks.

Honorable mention to Jovo Cop.

I think the Nucks are heading in the right direction , can Horvat become Toews like? I like his game. I respect the twins but the Canucks won't win anything until the changing of the guard happens, they need new leaders.
- HawkfaninBC

Even if we were heading in the right direction, there are a lot of miles to drive before we'd ever get there. Way too much mediocrity on this team with many gaps to fill.

I don't think Horvat will ever be Toews but even if he was we'd still have about 5 high quality players lacking for a team to compete for the cup.

That's my opinion though. I said openly we weren't in the Hawks' league before the playoffs started and got staunch disagreement by a few people on here.
