good blog.
i feel the best way to shed salary and cap would be via trade.
i don't think phillips and greening are tradable....but i feel confident that you could move neil and legwand, albeit for close to nothing in return (very late rd picks or given up on prospects), with maybe a little salary retained. obviously you aren't moving those guys for the return they bring, but the roster spot and little bit of cap relief they create.
it's definitely manageable without a buyout.......that being said, i still have a feeling greening will be bought out. |

David Rundblad didn't hold onto the Cup for that long last night, Vermette did, Hossa did, nice seeing ex-Sens winning Cups year after year.
Felt good to see Vermette win, he's great. We lost that trade. He's been great, Leclaire sucks and the 2nd is on his way out of town |

The more I look at the cap situation for the Sens, the more I think Anderson could be gone. |

I think now would be a good time to move him if you can.

I kind of agree with both you and Jared. This is what I think will happen with the (un)Fab Four
Neil - will not be traded, unless there is a deadline deal that is to his liking
Phillips - will not be traded (no takers)
Both of these guys will begin their transition into 'roles within the club'
Legwand - will be traded to a team that needs to get to the floor or needs some veteran leadership(like maybe Buffalo/Florida)
Greening - Bingo bound |

I also concur that at least one of the young fwds are going to be packaged with whichever goalie is traded to get us the T4 forward. I hope it is a block-buster of a deal.....
Many parts out, few parts back .... basically the same money in for money out. |

This was a great blog. First it put into perspective that the Sens do not have a lot of cap space and need to be careful. They cannot take too many risks in dealing for or signing high priced players.
Time is a great healer. If you are inside the cap and you have a year to make adjustments, sometimes the best option is just do nothing other than the obvious. Other than for Greening all the other contracts will get sorted out easily enough. Legwand will be traded, Phillips will retire at the end of the season and all the situations will get fixed. Not doing anything should also be understood as a clever decision to do something. |

I'm not concerned about the $$$ as much as roster spots, Greening is a goner but Phillips, Neil, Legwand take up 3 important spots on the roster - to think we have to move Cowen because Phillips is untradeable or keep Pageau in the minors or lose Condra because Legwand is here is brutal.
One thing Murray always does is have old, slow players around - he loves them. Need to get rid of the dead weight just to keep the kids around

That final was some bad soft hockey. Glad it's over. I enjoy the time between the draft-July 1st.
Should be fun |

Good blog, although I do have a comment that I'd love to get others opinions on.
I personally feel that Zibanejad is a more valuable player than Mike Hoffman at this juncture of their careers, and as such would command more $$$ and term.
Love both players, but Zibanejad is younger, iis more versatile as a big body who can play centre or wing, power forward who looks like he still has a lot of upside.
Hoffman looked great last year, but is older, did cool off through the year and has a limited sample size to rate his game.
I would say Z bad is in the $3-3.5 MM range, Hoffmann 2.5-3 MM
Thoughts? |

He isn't a big name. Alfie wants to capitalize on his dull points by naming the stars. |

Zibanejad is the better player but I think Hoffman will get more money he lead team in goals and mostly all his points were at even strength Hoffman will probably sign a shorter term deal than Zibanejad though |

It is a matter of leverage. Hoffman scored 27 G and led the team in that category. Is also on the verge of UFA, so you are essentially buying a couple of those years.
Zibanejad has no leverage right now, no options and I believe no arbitration rights yet.
Ryan Johansen signed a 3 year $12M deal, but structured at 3-3-6 with the last year being significantly higher so that his qualifying offer would be higher when it came time for his next contract. Zibanejad isn't at Johansens level right now, (hence the lower value) but they could do a similar thing by making the second year higher than the first ie 2-3 or even 1.5-3.5.
