Great read as always, Michael. TM has a lot of options, but as you say, he'll need a dance partner if he's going to move up or move picks for players. I will be slightly disappointed if no trade is made and we just pick at our draft slots. I just wish friday was multiple rounds of drafting, not only round one. |

I think getting a 23-24 yeras old top 6 forward or top 3 D for a 21 st pick is, at least, wishful thinking.
You would have to pay way more than that. |

Agreed. Multiple picks and/or prospects would have to be involved in any deal like that. And the way fans get attached to the potential of prospects, I'd expect some to be upset when they are used in a trade.
With the sheer number of picks and prospects we have I expect TM to try to turn quantity into higher quality, but then again, I said that at the last draft, and there was no trade like that. |

Now that we are two or so years in what are do you guys think of grigo ? Would you move him and the 21st for the sixth ? Should I want the Devils to even do that ? Are the expectations of him still the same or what |

Michael, as many have said previously...thank you for the thoughtful and insightful blogs..I look forward to reading each one, and clearly you have risen to the top of the Hockey Buzz blogger heap!
I do think it is going to be hard to move up in this draft without parting with some significant assets. I really hope they don't trade any D prospects as I like where we are at with them, and frankly think we are thin there already.
As for drafting my hope is to grab a) LW sniper, or b) a solid, stay at home shut-down Dman.
A trade for an NHL-ready LW would be great too...but I think that will cost quite a bit. |

Its hard to say... grigo has been mishandled here its not even funny..they couldnt have made worse decisions about him even if they were trying. Most of us i believe have accepted the fact that he may never pan out, but still hold out hope he can. |

Many many Sabres fans would do that. Maybe all of them. I do think he could become a very good NHL player in a couple more years. His, or his agent's, apparent demand for a 1-way contract seems too pushy, as he would definitely benefit from some AHL time.
He's been mishandled for sure, but his attitude will determine where he goes from here. The time of high expectations on Grigo is long gone. |

I certainly would. But would be shocked if those two parts got us 6th.
He's perplexing. Seemingly quite talented but his development was rushed and horribly botched. He was too good for juniors and too young for the AHL, which forced his way onto the big club.
Normally I'd hate to give up on a talented 21 year old center with size, but with the center position stocked here, I'd move him for a quality return. |

This reaction should tell you if you "should want that"
HELL YES, I'd do that in a friggin heartbeat...send the papers I'll sign now before you change your mind.
With the 6th one of the following is due to be there
Hannifin
Werenski
Strome
Marner
And I'd gladly take any one of them. |

Talbot looks to be on the move either today or tomorrow...Edm, Sj, and Buff are the three with the best offer. |

in a heartbeat - Michael Pachla
There still could be a player equally talented floating at 21 with a lot of players being so close. I am open to trading out of 6 but ultimately I want the best piece we can get for that pick wether it be in a trade or with the player we select there. Grigo is interesting with his size and skill. He seems like the type of player you think long and hard about moving and when you do regret it instantly lol |

although he had question marks coming out of junior, he was put in a tough situation, chief amongst them the chl/nhl agreement |

The US Open was my second favorite tournament by far up till the past few years.
Now I feel they are trying to make it more like a British Open instead of what it was meant to be, based on the last few years.
Is it too much to ask for them to play on a green golf course that's not a cow pasture?
Hell if you grow the rough, Lancaster C.C. would make a much better venue then what I have seen the last few years. |

Michael Pachla: Buffalo Sabres 2015 Draft Preview--In search of a dance partner
Sabres GM Tim Murray has the assets to wheel and deal - Michael Pachla
The sentiment is nice and all, but I can't see anyone giving up the caliber of "young player" Tim Murray is talking about for #21 without including something else incredibly significant. That something else usually ends up being a roster player that can make a big impact. The Sabres don't have many of those right now, and if you move the ones that actually do, you're essentially robbing Peter to feed Paul. |

if Philly offers pick 29 and either McDonald or Vinny to the Sabres for pick 51 and say Larsson (random prospect), do you make that trade? |
