ya know I was thinking. Everyone always seems to think the Sabres, the Bills, Buffalo always gets screwed.
In this case, Sabres lose 2 lotteries in a row.
We're closing in on a player that would have been drafted 1st overall since Crosby. So despite our losing, we're getting the 2nd best player of the past 10 years. I hardly consider that "losing".
Some will say "Oh, but WE didn't GET the MAIN prize" but (frank) the main prize. (frank) McDavid, we don't need that clown. We've got an ace of our own and they will both be masterful out on the ice for a very long time.
And we've got Reinhart, a magnificent talent in his own right, where Murray most likely would have drafted 1st overall last year anyways. The kid has an amazing ceiling and I can't wait to witness the type of play he showed in juniors and the WJC.
Add to that our recent success at drafting high impact players in high draft positions. Girgensons, Risto, Z, Pysyk and a treasure trove of projected impactful complimentary players. We're luckier than some people realize or are willing to admit.
This is no time to be a Debbie. And it's no time to trade our best players for (frank)ing mediocrity. - TheSabresTaco
I don't know why I this comparison popped into my head this morning, but I almost feel like McDavid and Eichel are going to be the NHL's version of Manning and Brady.
McDavid is the quiet likeable one while Eichel is the outspoken one everyone says has an attitude problem. To be honest, at this juncture, I'm ecstatic to have the outspoken one in Buffalo.
I think it popped into my head because of that TSN article where Eichel said either it's all 82 games in the NHL or he's going back to BU. |

Sabres were taking Reinhart even if they had pick #1 last year and Eichel is much better than a consolation prize.

I'll take Eichel's "attitude problem" over McDavid's good ol Canadian kid robotics every day of the week. Certain personalities seem to have an issue with Eichel having and expressing confidence. But the people that know him give him rave reviews. The kid is all business, all the time when it comes to hockey. He works hard on and off the ice, clearly by the fact that not only is he academically ahead of his peers, but physically as well. No one who knows him has a bad thing to say about him.
Yep, he chugged a poopty beer and gave a shout out to Buffalo. How does anyone from Buffalo NOT love that?!
As far as his NHL or college hockey comment, I don't blame him in the slightest. Look at it from his side. He's about to make a very hard decision. He has reasons to go back to college as well as the NHL. He knows the NHL is waiting for him. If I'm him, I know I get to fulfill my dream this year or next year, career-ending injury not withstanding. I myself absolutely loved college. Loved playing ball, loved the parties, loved the freedom. I know, if I'm signing onto a pro team, that excludes me from returning to my college team. If I sign and my team tells me "well, we just wanted your name on the dotted line, time to go to juniors or the AHL" I'd be (frank)ing pissed. I leave the best time of my life behind, my college team and players whom I deeply cherish to not play in the best league in the world despite the broken promises of my new GM.
Yeah, I totally understand where he's coming from. I'd do the same damn thing. |

People look at a lot of this and say it's an attitude problem, but personally, I love his confidence. Buffalo has had their fair share of quiet guys and guess what, none of them have gotten the job done.
Some think that him saying he won't go to Major Junior is him not wanting to pay his dues and move his way up like everyone else. I disagree. He's simply saying he has no problem going back to school (and paying his dues) if the team that drafts him doesn't think he'd be ready for a full 82 game schedule.
Based on his statement after that, the Sabres have already told him that he'd be here for the full 82, so I don't see it as a problem.
I wonder if all these people who think he needs to pay his dues thought that Crosby needed to pay his dues too. Or MacKinnon. Or Ekblad. Or Pat Kane. They must all have attitude problems because they "didn't pay their dues."

Still need another arm. can't keep relying on Marco Estrada to channel his inner Steib. - Sabresfan-365
You are welcome for him....
(I'm a Brewers fan. Lind has been great for us this season too so pretty fair)
Estrada could never keep consistency while in Milwaukee.. would look great but then give up 7 in 1 inning the next week. Hope both sides turn out well but Lind is coming up in a lot of trade discussions because my Crew are pretty bad this year. |

It's all white noise. He's not going to pay attention to it, Murray sure as poop won't pay attention to it and neither will we. Nobody circles the wagons like Buffalo fans.
Some people just want to yell poop to knock somebody down. Eichel can hold up 3 fingers and ask them to read between the lines.

The way that I look at it is that the biggest stars tend to have the biggest personalities. Yes, there are exceptions to that (Toews, I'm looking at you). But overall, they got to where they are in part because of their attitude and personality. It's part of who they are and it continuously pushes them to be the best. |

I get this whole conversation but I think it is the media looking for ANYTHING to write about these two guys that hasn't already been written.
Besides, wasn't it McDavid that before the lottery it came out of his camp that he really wouldn't mind playing for just about anyone BESIDES Edmonton?? Him going to Edmonton is the NHL's worse nightmare. West coast team, tiny city in Canada, and minimum exposure. Just look at McDavid's face when he found out EDM won the lottery.. he was PISSED

This was about the second after EDM came up with a gold card. You are telling me that this kid is excited about being shipped off to a Canadian team like EDM. |

if anything, I notice that most Canadian stars DON'T have that off ice personality. Then you look at Americans, you've got guys like Kane, Roenick, Miller, Housley, LaFontaine ... plenty with big personalities.
As a side note, I'm a huge American player homer, but I bought a Toews signed jersey last year. Love it.
He Cam Atkinson on Jonathan Toews share the torch in who brought us Jack Eichel. |

I'd love to add a Toews jersey to my collection. I do have a signed Kane one though. I'm sure the 3rd Cup win helped it's value a bit. Not that it matters. I'd never part with it anyway. |

I've been asking around for places to watch the draft, and here's a few I found that were actually having draft parties.
Amherst Pizza & Ale House – Beer specials
Santora’s (Williamsville) – Draft party
Duff’s (Orchard Park) – Draft party
Tully’s (Williamsville)
Lagerhaus 95 – Draft specials
Pearl Street – Draft specials

I'd love to get a Kane and Parise jersey.
So far I have Giroux, Stamkos, Miller, Vanek, Toews, Housley. I need an Eichel jersey to wear and one to frame. (frank). |

The Draft party at the Arena sucks. They have the draft on the scoreboard, but they don't have the audio on and you have to listen to Kevin Sylvester talk instead. I'd rather damage my ear drums than listen to that. |
