Hartnell should have been worth more, but whether or not Hextall actually could have gotten more... I'm not sure. Were there ever any rumors of better offers out there? - Doc_Sarcasm
Not that I know about... of course who saw that trade coming?
Could they have gotten more from the Jackets. I can't imagine how they couldn't have thought Hartnell would cost them more than a player they were prepared to buy out.
I don't know man. The whole transaction befuddles me. I don't know what to make of it other than I didn't come away from it at all satisfied with any of the answers I heard. |

Slight exaggeration there considering if you read his other posts, you'd know that isn't true - five4fighting10

It's a stretch to call Jeremy Morin and Corey Tropp prospects at this point. More like journeyman NHL depth players at this point. |

I guess one post saying something as simple as there being a 5 point difference between Saad and Schenn in the stats overshadows paragraphs explaining why Saad is a really good, young player who isn't at superstar status yet and has more value than Schenn for obvious reasons. |

It's not the whole story, but all I'm saying is, the Hawks saw what his salary demands were, decided that in their structure that he was not worth the demands, and made a trade. Saad is an outstanding young player. His point totals to date don't scream superstar and he's also been playing mostly with guys named Toews or Kane.
They landed a good, proven middle six NHL center and a top forward prospect, as well as two good mid-tier prospects and a 4th rounder, rather than risk an offer sheet where another team would have dictated the salary they paid to Saad, or where the CBA would have determined the compensation they received for him - Jsaquella
Again: I am not disputing what you just said
But I do think it is absolutely valid to question whether Chicago should even have been in this position
BTW, folks, here's what's coming from a team that's been a pain in our arse for two seasons now
Saad-Johansen-Atkinson
Foligno-Jenner-Clarkson
Hartnell-Wennberg-Rychel/Bjorkstrand?
Calvert-Chaput/Karlsson/Boll

We could have probably offered up Michael Raffl and two modest draft picks and got Saad. I don't think what Chicago gave up was that great. |

There's two things that I would hate more.
If they got Phaneuf.
If they got Phaneuf AND Kessel.
I've said it before. Phil Kessel played for us in 88-89 and 89-90, only he called himself Mike Bullard back then.
At that time, the price was Peter Zezel. When we shipped Mr. Bullard out, we sent him to Toronto for some guy named F. Considerations. - Doc_Sarcasm
I can't remember him wow why did we trade zezel for that turd? |

I think the theory went: Hartnell is in decline. Hartnell doesnt play defense or on the PK. Hartnell is owed 8 metric sh*t tons of money until he's eleventy billion years old. Umberger plays 200 feet. Umberger will finally be healthy again (HA!) Umberger is only signed until he's a billion years old.
Most of that theory, sadly has been shot to sh*t. But, the Flyers werent going to be Cup contenders anyway, so I can live with it. I'm not turning cartwheels, although I might give a Monty Pythonian cheer when RJ's deal expires.

The intent of the post was to try and downgrade Saad as a player, by comparing his point totals to Schenn, to target a specific posters comment. Many feel Schenn is lagging behind in his development, and is terribly inconsistent. In my opinion, and in most hockey pundits opinion, Saad is clearly the superior player. |

I love that offer sheets are considered a legit threat this summer: Martin Jones, Hamilton, Saad... really hope to see a few real ones drop tomorrow... shake the market loose. |

My favorite B.S. rumor from back in the day was the typical Philly rumor:
Zezel was banging Joey Merlino's sister. There was an ugly breakup, Skinny Joey threatened to have Zezel killed.

You have to have some sympathy for Chicago, as they've done a great job building a team that has won 3 Stanley Cups in 6 years. They've lost players before, and have managed to overcome it. How long can they continue to do that? The point is, and I think you and I are in agreement, don't trade the young early 20 something stars. Do whatever you have to to keep them, and move the older player. Bite the bullet on a bad deal for a 30 plus player if you have to. If I was a fan of that team, I could live with it.

It's definitely in the air, far too many pre-emptive deals that might not have otherwise been made. I could see Jones going, but Hamilton and Saad probably stay without the looming threat. |

I think it was said more in jest when other posts are taken into account but that's just me. Personally, I love Saad but in no world is he worth 6.5 mil per right now if that's truly what he's seeking. |

NHL officials have been notified that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation into ex-L.A. Kings player Mike Richards involves the prescription drug oxycodone ... multiple sources tell TMZ Sports.
Our sources say Richards was stopped while crossing from the United States into Canada on June 17th ... and we're told he was questioned about oxycodone pills, a powerful painkiller.
For the record, Richards has NOT been charged with a crime.
tmz
However, he has since been cut from the team for "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract."
We reached out to Richards' agent for comment multiple times but haven't heard back. Canadian officials refused to comment, citing privacy laws.
But a rep for the NHL Players Association tells us, "We are in the process of reviewing the facts and circumstances of this matter, and will discuss the situation with the player in order to determine the appropriate course of action."

Absolutely -- at a minimum, Sharp and Versteeg would've been gone before I left the draft floor Saturday, I'll tell you that
