Will Timonen sign one of those one day contracts to retire as a Flyer?

On Oct. 14, the Flyers will hold a special tribute night to commemorate the retirement of five-time Barry Ashbee Trophy winning defenseman Kimmo Timonen. There will be a pregame ceremony before the Flyers' game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.

Outstanding. Wonder if the NHL would let the teams use the Cup as part of this ceremony. Good for TK, good for the Flyers fans.

If Hext goes to Vinny and paints a picture: "Look, Vinny. This hasn't worked out. Really sort your bout that. But why don't we just agree to part ways? It isn't going to help you sitting in a press box for 9 months. And you know we've got to get these younger blossoming players some ice time, so in the event of an injury we are still calling people up from the Phantoms. Besides, you know this 200 foot system that Dave is installing really isn't suited for your style of game. And hopefully you can latch on somewhere that better suits your skill set."

Bill......a few weeks ago, you wrote that the Flyers and Vinny might be able to mutually agree to terminate the contract......

do you stilll see this as a realistic option?

I like Gagner. Gut feeling says he's gonna be good. Maybe I'm just still giddy. I like that addition though.

Guys think about it.

Mason was at the end of his career before he was traded here
MDZ was at the end of his career before he signed here
Gagner was at the end.....

I hope Kimmo gets a one day contract so he can throw the orange and black on, and retire in the colors of a real (frank)ing man.

That is entirely up to Lecavalier. Financially, it's probably more realistic a year from now (Vinny will have a $500K installment due on July 1, 2016) because Lecavalier has never intended to play the final year on that contract, which was created for cap hit mitigation.

Lecavalier already knows he is not going to get more ice time under Hakstol than he got under Chief, so it's really up to him if he wants his freedom now (assuming he cannot be traded) or a year from now. But if he still wants to play as a regular elsewhere -- and he says he does -- he's not helping his own value if he accepts a 13th forward role simply to collect his money.

I'm honestly surprised that you aren't an NHL GM.

Whats your gut say, Bill? I believe Vinny is smart and humble enough to move on.

It killed me when Brind'amour was traded to Carolina, so much so that I didnt warm up to Primeau until after he was forced to retire. If he'd remained a Flyer for his whole career, I have no doubt that he'd have supplanted Dave Poulin as my all time favorite.

My gut is that the he does not walk this summer and the Flyers end up trading him. Arizona is still a potential trade partner even after the Pronger-Grossmann moves they made to get closer to cap floor.

Bill - assuming there is a team out there that is interested in him, what do you think he'd be offered? I think the best he'll get is 1 year at $2M.

I couldn't see him getting a multi-year anywhere or more money than that, either.

That would be amazing if Hexy could pull that off... Also can you see the Flyers having any interest in Semin?
