I think he signs a back-up goalie, maybe a middle six forward-even that last one is up in the air since they've decided to keep Gagner.

Now, later in the summer, who knows? Maybe he can move Vinny after the bonus is paid and swing a deal. Maybe he trades another D-man and has a bit of cash to target an arbitration award walk away situation.

- Jsaquella

That would all be good with me. I'm still dumbfounded that anyone would give up any asset for Rinaldo. It only takes one maniac. I thought it would be impossible to move VLC, but who knows. If he could get a 7th rounder for him without retaining a ton of money it would be a coop.

Interesting read on the difficulty the Kings might face in making the termination stick

I figured he might get somebody to bite on Pronger, but I had no idea he'd get a potentially serviceable forward, a mid round pick and be able to deal a surplus defenseman on a relatively big deal while doing so.

Getting a 3rd rounder for Rinaldo was amazing. We see guys like that getting signed for $575K in mid July.

My favorite B.S. rumor from back in the day was the typical Philly rumor:

Zezel was banging Joey Merlino's sister. There was an ugly breakup, Skinny Joey threatened to have Zezel killed.

- Doc_Sarcasm

that's pretty bad, I don't quite remember that either. i do remember lindros having ties to merlino.

To be honest, I don't think Rinaldo is an NHL player. Since when is a guy who has zero discipline, no skill, while acting like a total jackass worth anything?

Pronger thing wasn't a huge shock. I thought it was possible, especially after seeing what happened with Horton. Still was a pleasant surprise though.

All this wheeling and dealing is fun. Ek says Oilers working on a big deal. A 3 for 3 swap with an EC team. The suspense. Could it be the Flyers?

Schenns and Laughton for Eberle, Pouliot and Fasth plz.

I think he could be a NHL player, if he pulled his head out of his ass in terms of on ice behavior and controlling himself. To date he has not.

Not stunned at Pronger, but very happy it not costing a pick and getting a decent return for a surplus guy

Everything he said made perfect sense. My only question is how would it work in terms of the cap if they wind up having to pay Richards? If the arbitrator rules in their favor then what? What penalty should the Kings pay, and even worse, who is going to punish the league for allowing it without any real due process? I think both the Kings and the league have put themselves in a bad spot.

And I'll add a disclaimer, this based on what we know at this time, which isn't much.

You can suspend the player, and force him to either get it taken care of, or suffer the consequences. If a player had a pain killer addiction from playing hockey, the goal should be to get that straightened out, not to get out of the contract. There are programs for issues like this. There isn't any evidence of that being attempted before a termination, that I'm aware of.

I agree with other that say the optics are that Voynov, who has been arrested and charged with a crime, has only been suspended. He's still a good player, while Richards, who to my knowledge has not been charged with anything, has had his contract terminated, and is not considered a player worthy of his contract anymore.

Does seem strange, but it's hard to imagine the Kings would do this frivolously.

There were umpteen rumors when they were here.
- MJL

Rumors are as plentiful as rain.

Let's not rehash all the completely unsubstantiated crap from "when they were here." It is reported by TMZ, which has proved to be a fairly reliable source of real news, surprisingly, that this is drug related at the border. So that's not my sister in law's cat sitter's brother's mechanic's mother's maid said.

It is, but based on the very limited facts we have, it certainly seems fishy.

EXACTLY

How the hell do the Kings get to spend that cash?

That is straight-up BS -- I cannot believe other teams aren't howling about this

Good news is Richards was picked up on the Mexican side of the boarder so any cap ramifications are in pesos.
