It killed me when Brind'amour was traded to Carolina, so much so that I didnt warm up to Primeau until after he was forced to retire. If he'd remained a Flyer for his whole career, I have no doubt that he'd have supplanted Dave Poulin as my all time favorite. - Doc_Sarcasm
I felt the same way about Keith--the 2004 playoffs helped get over it; but not much. |

My gut is that the he does not walk this summer and the Flyers end up trading him. Arizona is still a potential trade partner even after the Pronger-Grossmann moves they made to get closer to cap floor. - bmeltzer
So, see what AZ does in FA and he gets traded later to get to the floor. Makes sense. And for a couple more years at a few million bucks, that's better than walking right now. |

loved Brindy but man, 20/20 hindsight, would have much prefered they kept Forsberg.
About time Jimmy Watson got in. |

Bill Meltzer: Gagner Staying, Watson/Brind'Amour, Timonen Retirement Night, Kase - bmeltzer
I'll say it over and over again. I don't even like Sam Gagner but if you make the type of deal that Hextall has at a position of need, with a player who is not only young but has a reasonable deal, I feel it's nothing short of dumb to buy him out. The pros heavy outweigh the cons.
When Rod Brind'amour was traded, I believe Keith Primeau was a 90% player in NHL99 and Brind'amour was only like an 88% player, so I wasn't sad when the deal was made at all.
In all seriousness, he's living proof that he's the type of player you win with. |

I'm actually glad to hear they are keeping Gagner. If he can play wing like he says, and be motivated to produce because its a contract year, maybe it will work out.

The @NHLFlyers drafted three goalies in the 2015 NHL Draft....interestingly 3 days later they have fired amateur goalie scout Neil Little. |

Jimmy Watson being honored is WAY overdue in my opinion. He was one of the top 10 Dmen to ever wear a Flyers jersey and the best home grown one. |

hahahaha funny ass video. pronger was the man. - benjichronic
One thing about Pronger I always liked, was how he handled the media. He didn't take poop off of anyone, and he called them right out into the open when it was needed. So many of them ask stupid questions after games and in conferences, and then you have instigators like Pinotch who just try to sabotage the team. D-bag or not, I always loved when Prongs spoke up to them. I get so tired of the freakin media stirring things up and just being stupid.. guys like him make me actually want to listen to their stupid questions and baiting, just so I can hear his response. |

If I was a team that really matters anted Semin, I would have called Carolina and offered them a 7th pick if they retain 2.5M of his salary. |

I hate the (frank)ing media. Blow up any kind of minuscule story into a huge headline.
But yeah, pronger was great at giving the media poop. He took poop from NO ONE, and that's why he's one of my all time fave players.

I believe Neil little was let go only because of his ownership of a hockey team in Europe and this decision was agreed upon months ago I dont read much into the firing and analysis of prospects. |

I am happy Gagner is getting a chance. If he makes the 2nd PP unit more effective and stays a plus player even strength it could make huge depth differences during the transition.
Could do wonders getting out of Edmonton and Arizona and a chance to reclaim your career with a new coach in a team that does want to win, as much as a rebuild as we are in.
Those are places young and old hockey careers have gone to die with the exception of the Oilers 2006 run with Pronger and a very few bright moments with Dave Tippet coaching the Yotes.
Guys look at each other in locker rooms like that and may play for each other but its gotta be miserable, millions of dollars aside |

I remember that Brind'Amour trade like it was yesterday. The Flyers lost something that day when Rod left town.
Didn't Roger Neilson say something like "He's even bigger than Lindros" when seeing Primeau? Funny, though, I don't remember Lindros and Primeau ever playing in the same game as a Flyer. I'm sure they did, though. |

One big thing that might be underrated in terms of Gagner on the PP, he can set up along the LW wall like Giroux and QB Avery effectively just because he's a righty shot. A lefty on that wall has fewer easy options, where everything flows easier for a righty.
Gagner was also a very effective ES producer for Arizona |
