With a week FA class this year could Mason and Simmonds and Read be pices to move.

I know you all think I am crazy but Hextall see them as piece to reshape the roster and also the cap situation. Not saying just dump them but good hockey trades. Like Winnipeg. Could Mason be an option for them if they seek a goalie upgrade?

Just spitballing with all the silliness of today

- J35Bacher

Can't see us moving Mase. But maybe a Coots, a Schenn or 2, a Read, or a Laughton. Don't know if Buff is the answer if he only wants to play D.

From what I've seen of him, I believe his NHL ceiling is that of a very good 3rd line center. What does that have to do with my feelings on player development? This is why I don't usually waste my time discussing things with you, it's like arguing with a bureaucrat, pointless.

If you want to imagine Laughton as a superstar NHL center, have fun. It's a free country.

Everything! You stated he is what he is! He's how old and has yet to play a full NHL season.

I have not once stated or made any comment suggesting that Laughton will a superstar NHL center. That is hyperbole.

I would not include Laughton in a deal for Byfuglien. Do you think the Flyers drafted Laughton with a first round pick thinking he would only be a 3rd line center in the league?
- MJL

Yes, I believe they drafted him to be their defensive shut down center. If you want to classify that as something other than the third line so be it. Line designations are somewhat meaningless. But since they see G as #1, Coots as #2, then it stands to reason.....

belesky for 5m or kessel for 8

- Winning

Kessel for 8

It's not even a question -- if you give Matt Beleskey something like 6x6, Phil Kessel only has seven years left on his deal at 8

I'd find the money to pay Kessel first -- I mean, come on. Beleskey's career high in goals and points is 7/17 than Kessel's worst season as a pro in a season where everything went to hell

Maybe I'm not speaking English, so I will try to clarify.

I DO NOT think that Scott Laughton is a bad player. I DO NOT think that a 3rd line center isn't important on an NHL team. I DO think that Laughton will LIKELY never be MORE than a 3rd line center on a GOOD NHL team. I DO think that a skilled top 4 Dman has more value and is harder to acquire than a good 3rd line center.

Period. End of story.

I don't believe that. I beleive the Flyers feel that Laughton has offensive upside, and could be a 2nd line center caliber player in this league, along with his strong overall game. I feel if they felt he would be a 3rd line checking center, they would not have used a first round pick on him. Flyers draft BPA, not where they feel a player will fit in on the current lineup.

Why are we even discussing the possibility of trading Mason? Not sure I've heard anything on here that I like less than that.

Maybe they are going after Engstrom and not Buff
I remember there were stories about Flyers having interest in Engstrom in his pre UFA year and then Winnipeg locked him up

Who knows?
Only thing that makes sense is to do this I think Amac has to go the other way, but why would the Jets do this?

- Marc D

I'm not sure why they would trade Buff now. We have seen the price paid for dmen at the trade deadline who are on the final year of their contract. Enstrom has term left on his deal, so I feel is more likely to be traded during the summer. Maybe Enstrom wants out and with Trouba assuming the top pairing role, maybe from a financial standpoint the Jets don't want $5.75 million on the 2nd pairing.

More like not ready for the NHL yet, and needing more development time.

If we're talking Jets, that'd be Hutchinson. None of the others are NHL ready yet. Theyd also be looking to deal Pavelec, with his big cap hit and wildly inconsistent play
- Jsaquella

Correct.

I am just trying to think what I would do. Hextall didn't draft any of the players on the roster right now. So maybe he feels differently about guys like Mason, Laughton, Simmonds, Read. Where we might think it's doom if Mason was to be traded maybe Hextall sees something else.

I just think with the weak FA class it makes more trades likely. Should be fun couple of days

Maybe Holmgren did but maybe Hextall thinks he is just a 3rd line center and expendable.

There is nothing in FA to get excited about, nor do the Flyers have any reason to move any core pieces

We're gonna fight about something today because that's what we do, but there really shouldn't be anything to fight about

Cousins ? To date he's the more accomplished player with more size. Laughton has shown to be fragile
- Tfaehner

Cousins is smaller than Laughton. And slower. And had zero points in 11 games compared to 6 in 31 for Laughton in 14-15. Laughton getting caught with his head down once in the NHL doesn't mean he's fragile.

It wasn't just trading Mason. If you read the whole post it was about maybe players that Holmgren brought in and drafted aren't viewed the same by Hextall.
