I wouldn't mind seeing how Laughton handles LW

Brind'Amour in his prime was really a first line center caliber player.
- MJL

Yeah, anyone expecting Coots or Laughton to put 70+ points is going to be disappointed. The game is different now, though. Chicago just won a Cup with a 35 year old, 37 point Brad Richards as their 2C.

Agreed. I'd just like, if possible, a stronger 2C by the time they are a contender.

Edit: Clarke/Macleish, Sakic/Forsberg, Yzerman/Federov, Datsyuk/Zetterberg

That's the kind of 1-2 punch I want up the middle.

- BiggE

I think that every team would love to have a Sakic/Forsberg or Yzerman/Fedorov tandem, but very few teams do.

Coots is likely Handzus, underrated 40ish points, stellar D.

It wasn't just trading Mason. If you read the whole post it was about maybe players that Holmgren brought in and drafted aren't viewed the same by Hextall.
- J35Bacher

I did read the whole post, but couldn't fathom even thinking about trading Mason, so the rest didn't stick out.

And I think the Flyers would love to get a winger like that for Couturier. Get a playmaker with him and Schenn.

Or the first two offers they sent him were so insulting that they didn't warrant a response? That last $5.5M/per offer could have been last-ditch before they traded him.

As much as I like Voracek, Kane's the best playmaking winger in the game. There's only one of him, and very few wingers like him, even fewer who are affordable and available.

good chance we may see this with the current line up

maybe SG plays LW a bit too this year

- Marc D

Might as well try it out this season. I think Laughtons skill set will work well at wing or center.

I don't think Kane is any better a playmaker than Voracek, but he is a much better finisher, IMO.

So, what's the deal with Mike Richards? Is he not allowed to sign (or at least blacklisted) right now with his pending drug smuggling charges?

He's expected to be the first overall pick this year in the Canadian Penal League.

I'd deal him. 31-yo and his value is probably never going to be higher. Hamilton in hand, young team, etc.
