Saad is really good and really young
- PhillySportsGuy

Clearly, and he's gonna be a great forward, but I thought they wanted to start unloading some extra forwards for defensemen?

I think if you can acquire a Saad, you do it and figure out the rest later.

It's all about talent
- PhillySportsGuy

I know we can both point to examples that will prove our points, so I am honest enough to not acknowledge that others who see it differently have merit in those opinions

I just truly believe in team sports, it's not always as simple as rolling out the most talent -- as an NBA fan, I would think that a team like the Spurs would embody that, whereas a team like Sacramento, with the exception of a five or six year window, has never been able to get out of its own way

Morin, Tropp, Anisimov and Dano and 4th in 2016 for Saad, Paliotta and Alex Broadhurst. CBJ-CHI deal.

Wow... apparently GM's are fed up with paying their RFA's.

Unless they're really high on Dano, this is an awful trade for Chicago, and a flat out steal for Columbus. Ranks right up there with the Hamilton trade.

Morin must be PISSED -- he asked out because they wouldn't ever give him more than 4th line minutes, now he's right back there

He must be losing his poop right about now

I guess. Dano is a really good young player, and Anisimov is a good middle six, but to give up Saad for that package...plus that doesn't really help the Hawks cap situation much at all

Chicago gets back a bunch of depth forwards and a late 1st round pick who was the 10th ranked euro skater.
not exactly a great return on their part for a 1st line young pup.

McKenzie just said that Saad was looking for $6.5mm over 6 years and the Hawks suspected there was an offer sheet out there.

I'm not one of those people who feels that Saad is the second coming of jesus... Chicago did get back some good/young/cheap pieces. But it is surprising to see these RFA's get dealt instead of given the keys to the bank vault. Sure makes the league a more interesting place.

You have to think CHI flips Anisimov. I don't see him as a fit on a Hawks team.

I think they may move Bickel and Sharp still. I can see Ehrhoff signing there at a cheap rate

It's stupid, T'hawk -- many NHL GMs would rather pay David Clarkson a billion dollars for a billion years at age 30, but they get all pissy when Brandon Saad asks for $4 million at age 23

The NHL has some messed up thinking when it comes to young players

I agree, but I do think Saad is a 1st line talent. Dano could be a special player, but Morin and Tropp are mid tier guys. I guess they decided getting a known quantity in Dano beat 1st, 2nd & 3rd as comp
