Drafting for need in the 76ers situation would be impossible. They need everything. They also need 2 of these top picks to turn into stars. - jstross
He knows nothing of the NBA, but thinks he has the answers to building the Sixers. Don't even bother |

You're right, they do need everything. So far Hinkie has just collected a bunch of players, and hasn't put any semblance of an actual team in place. There is an equal chance of his plan being a complete bust as there is of becoming a top team.

Going to be tough to get top end FAs for a while until they are more legit. - jstross
Possibly next year because they'll have the money to sign two max players along with having the young supporting cast already |

Here's the thing: If it's true an offer sheet was out there, and you wanted roster players back, then maybe that's the best you could get with less than a day until FA starts
But at the same time, I don't know that they managed this very well -- they had to know what Saad was looking for, they were just at the draft last week, and they should've tried a little harder to move 34-year-old Patrick Sharp than betting on Marko Dano
That's just how I see that one -- if you're gonna play with fire like this with those high-end salaries, then you'd better be ready to move old players and not be Richarding around - AllInForFlyers
Remember the rumors of an offer sheet for Hamilton and a 7M salary request? What did he sign for in Calgary?

Getting a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd would've been a better deal than what they got from Columbus. - MJL
I'm not so sure. Dano seems like a really good player. |

He better get a lot better for this deal to even make sense. He's the key.

Perhaps they did try to move Sharp and found no takers. He's got a few years left and is getting older.
It's not a great deal, it's a risky one. Dano could be a fantastic player, and soon. He was really good for the Jackets in the second half and just turned 20. Pop him on a line with Toew or Kane and he could post huge numbers. But he's definitely not as established as Saad.
Anisimov is a solid middle six guy, who could be helpful to a good team. Morin was kind of stuck in a 4th line role with the Hawks before, but if there's more trades to come, they might find a spot for him. Tropp is a decent depth prospect.
I'd rather have Dano than a late first rounder in an average draft class, and they can probably flip the other pieces to land an equivalent to 2nd and 3rd rounders, if not more.

Dano's also got 2-years of development under his belt... a 1st in the 2016 draft is not gonna really fit into their likely window to win again. |

Teams, even championship teams need to keep the young talent rolling in.

Exactly -- these teams aren't handling these situations correctly
Yeah, the Bruins were jacked up against the Cap. Everybody in the world knew that
But you flipped Lucic on Friday and for some reason, ate $2.75 million of his salary -- why? There were teams out there who you could've moved him to and saved the cash, then you'd have been ready for whatever offer sheet that would've came Hamilton's way
Paul Holmgren said it once: You can't be scared of offer sheets. These teams are panicking when there are plenty of moves to make instead of dealing first-line wingers and top pair defensemen

Dano's 20. - Tomahawk
Yes, I know that. My point was more about continuing to draft and add talent then the actual trade. If Dano doesn't excel, it's a really bad trade.

They may not even be looking to move Sharp... he's the third most marketable face off that team... his face is everywhere in Chicago.
They've been looking for a big-bodied 2C/3C for the longest time... AA seems to fit that bill... and upgrade over what they had in Handzus, if you will.
It's interesting that they went out of their way to get Morin back -- always thought he'd be a good player for them. |

I've been reading that they just won't move off their price, from MTL and/or Washington, and that's just crazy -- yeah, you don't want to get brutalized, but you're up against it.
Because of your management of the Cap -- Saad being restricted wasn't a surprise. They've been talking about moving the Sharps, Bickells and whoevers all season
Again: I've got nothing against Marko Dano. Nothing at all. Maybe he does exactly what you said he could do.
But I KNOW what Brandon Saad is -- he's your 22-year-old, two-time Cup winning 1LW!
He's got to go? Seriously? That's crazy |
