Feels like something's missing from the Charlie Francis portion of the piece. - hscesq
Just a quick note before this goes down that path. Francis is an absolute coaching legend. His contributions to the worlds of sprinting and strength and conditioning are legendary. He has been an influence on many, many coaches training athletes today and that has nothing to with performance enhancing drugs. He and Ben were the fall guys for the '88 100m in Seoul. They took that hit, despite the fact that every single runner in that race tested positive for a banned substance at some point.
You can argue whether using performance enhancers in elite level sprinting or major league baseball or the tour de france is right or wrong. You can pick your heroes and villains as you see fit. Just understand that Francis' contributions to his sport and his athletes in Canada and abroad run far deeper than the witch hunt we participated in in '88.
This piece is about PK and his trainer and how they prepare for the NHL season. You should look into Francis' legacy a little deeper. |

Team Canada is cheating in the PAN AM Games because there's no way there's winning going on in the Toronto Sports scene. |

Is that what I "should" do?
A witchhunt? They "took the hit"? Oh boy.
Listen - he can be the best trainer in the history of the sport, and he may very well be. I will not dispute that, because I honestly do not know. But not including the part where they got caught cheating on the biggest stage possible, seems a bit misguided, not to mention misleading, |

Athletes pick up their own weights and there is no towel service. They sprint outside on a track". Wow what a hardcore dungeon of a gym that sounds like. Picking up your own weights? Unheard of. |

Just wait. The track and field disciplines will start and Canada will fall down the standings. |

Not trying to mislead. The point was simply that Francis has a legacy beyond that event. Talk to many strength or sprint coaches and his name will come up as a mentor or an influence.
We all know the history of Seoul. I felt that did not need to be re-hashed. In fact, I thought some might not know of Francis' larger contributions and simply remember him from the Dubin Inquiry.
Was that a witch hunt? Did Francis and Johnson fall on their swords? It's a larger piece and one for another day. Read "The dirtiest race in history" by Richard Moore for an excellent account of what went down.

I didn't say you should rehash the entire story. And in fact, while some may not have known about the "good side" of Francis, I would venture a guess that several posters here don't have any clue who he is due to their age, and therefore do need at least a mention of what happened in 1988. But it's your piece, and you do as you see fit. I'm just giving an opinion. |

People actually care about the Panamanian Games?
With a tag line of "Some of the worlds greatest athletes!" It's pathetic. Also bowling is a Pan Am Sport. Bowling. |

If Brazil only beat Canada 4-1 in soccer, there's something fishy going on. |
